Equine Sports Therapist BSc (Hons) degree:
I've completed a 3 year degree in Equine Sports Therapy where graduation will take place later this year. During the 3 years I covered a range of modules including functional anatomy, health management, physiology, saddle fitting, farriery, nutrition, behaviour, health management, anatomy and physiology, sports medicine, applied behaviour and welfare, p

erformance nutrition, massage and performance therapy, biomechanics, food technology and finally rehabilitation and performance. All these topics interlinked and help enhance my knowledge and understanding which allows me to look at the equine as a whole. Equinology Equine Body Worker (EEBW):
During my degree I qualified as an Equine Body Worker through Equinology, taught my Debranne Pattillo. The course covered a variety of stretches and techniques including cross fibre and direct pressure to target areas of restriction during a full body equine sports massage. Equinology Myofascial Release Course Level 1 and 2:
Following the massage course with Equinology I'm now in the process of undergoing both level 1 and 2 Myofascial Release course taken by Ruth Mitchell-Golladay to enable an alternative to massage or to use the two combined depending on the needs of the horse. About me:
I have 20 years experience owning, riding, teaching and training a variety of horses including youngsters. Getting my first youngster at the age of 16 helped progress my knowledge first hand into training and backing young horses. Over the years I have worked across all disciplines with particular reference to Show jumping, Endurance and Carriage driving. Setting up my own private rehabilitation & training yard in 2020 has allowed me to continue helping horses & owners to progress.

😍 New Saddle Day 😍

Ella is now in the Prestige X Paris saddle 🥰
The main reason I loved the saddle is the belladonna panels which gives more freedom of movement for the shoulders. The flexibility suits her so well. The narrow twist gives a close contact feeling, so you are at one with the horse which is ideal.

I love that offers different models to suit different conformational types, enthusing the importance of the horse being comfortable.

has multiple models available to try, offering both made to order new saddles & pre-owned / ex-demo saddles at a reduced rate. Contact her to find your next saddle!

Does your horse have shoulder tension?

When assessing your horse, consider them both statically & dynamically. Right - left.
Consider signs of reduced range of motion. Look out for a shortness of stride…This can be related to a number of issues, more commonly lower limb; shoulder related issues tend to make the horse move in a wider arc rather than coming up & forward in the shoulder.

Causes
🐴 Uneven workload on right / left rein
🐴 One sided weakness from horse
🐴 Saddle fit & position of the saddle (see previous post for more info)

It’s important to consider the whole horse, taking into account any secondary compensations.

Shoulder tension directly links to secondary neck & back pain.

I’ve treated Joey for the last 6 years since he was bought over from Ireland as a 4 year old. He has gone from strength to strength. He is & has always been seen every 6 weeks as part of a routine management plan to ensure he can perform to his best.

Being able to treat horses everyday is why I qualified. I love my job & I love being part of the journey to success with each & everyone of your horses!

Joey was treated on 18th May, come 2nd 🥈 in the HOYS qualifier on 22nd May & yesterday he stood reserve champion & qualified for Royal international 👏🙌🏆

Such a good pair 🌟

🔹 Acid Ease 🔹

Great for those anxious, internal worrier types. It works to calm excess acid & soothe the gut lining. The dandelion powdered flavour helps even the fussiest of eaters.

I really rate this product & have seen first hand the difference it can make 🙌💙

🚨 Emergency appointment this morning to see a regular client after her horse showed unusual signs of discomfort when attempting to clip…

Take note 📝
💭 of your horses reactions
💭 any sudden changes in behaviour
💭difference from left to right

Clipping can be a good indication of how your horse is feeling & how they react to the heat & vibration of the clippers.

Listen to your horse!

1️⃣0️⃣ Weeks Difference ❕

Buddy, rising 7yr old Connie who I’ve seen 3 times since arriving with his new owner.

My first visit on 12th Jan (top pic) Buddy had recently travelled over from Ireland. He arrived weak, green & unmannerly. Buddy struggled with standing still at the start of the session, fidgeting, not relaxed although after 20/30 minutes into the session he started to let his guard down & relax.

I visited Buddy 4 weeks later for his second appointment (no pic from this angle). He had really come on since my last visit, he was more relaxed from the start. Very relaxed within his stable & happily picking up his feet which he wasn’t able to do on arrival. Having minimal training Buddy was uneven in his musculature, which is commonly found with young inexperienced horses who are growing &/ lack of training. His uneven shoulder musculature can be seen in the next pictures.

3rd visit on 23rd March to Buddy has been the best yet. Having his session in the field, with the sun on his back he behaved perfectly. 🥱 throughout having lots of releases. As the pictures show Buddy has really started to build up & strengthen within his body. Consistent workload & good management have contributed to how well he is looking.

Excited to see how Buddy develops & grows… keep your eyes peeled… possibly available 🔜 🏠

With the show season just around the corner are you & your horse prepared?

🏆 Appropriate training
🏆 Realistic goals
🏆 Listen & adjust

As much as we all love to plan, adapt as situations change. Ensure you’ve prepared yourself & your horse both physically & mentally to cope with what your asking…

👀 Spotted 👀

The change of weather ☔️ 💨 ❄️ has meant reduced turnout & more stable time for a lot of our horses. Less movement will have an effect both mentally & physically.

This is a great representation of a horse trying to take the weight off & ease pressure.

❔ Have you seen your horse standing like this
❓ Does your horse back up & lean against something within the stable / field

I’m grateful that has allowed me to post this picture, not often do I catch these type of shots 📸 Tempo has been diagnosed with hock degeneration after a lameness work up, nerve blocks & X-rays. The decision was made to medicate both hocks. Tempo has responded well & is slowly returning to work.

Note - this is a consideration, any concerns you may have need to be discussed with a professional.

🟧 Before & After 🟧

Treated under a , directly targeting lumbar tension.

Restrictions lead to a change in your horses way of going & subsequent muscle build up. Left untreated compensatory movement patterns will arise with your horse.
