Our last post of veterinary nursing awareness month introduces a second new face to our nurse/technician team - say hi to Izzie! Izzie has recently joined the team to allow us to continue providing the high level of patient care you've come to know from Westover vets.

Click ❤ to welcome Izzie to the team!

Izzie grew up in the countryside, owning horses and competing in Pony Club events, where her passion for caring for animals first began. She later joined Redwings Horse Sanctuary, where she helped care for recently rescued horses, further strengthening her interest in equine health and welfare. To gain additional experience working alongside veterinary professionals, she worked as a receptionist at Chapelfield Vets Equine Vets.

Outside of work, she enjoys exploring the countryside with her partner, helping her family on the farm and spending time with friends.

Huge thank you to the owner of this handsome boy, who gave us permission to use his pretty face on our socials!

The penultimate profile for our veterinary nursing awareness month is our vet tech Polly. Polly is passionate about all things equine locomotion - lameness, poor performance and rehabilitation. She is a ray of sunshine and bubbly enthusiasm that we cherish!

Click ❤ to continue to let our nursing team know they are valued by our clients. They work so hard for their patients and we simply could not do our work without them!

She joined Westover as a veterinary technician in Autumn 2023, having grown up watching the Westover Vets on her family farm! She has always been fascinated by veterinary work and now loves being part of the team.

Her main interests are equine lameness, performance and the interaction between horse and rider, and she is currently working towards an Equine Physiotherapy diploma. She enjoys gaining valuable skills and knowledge from the Westover team and applying it with a physiotherapy perspective.

When she is not working or studying, she loves showjumping her horse Derg and spending time at the beach with her two dogs Rolo and Twiggy.

It is veterinary nursing awareness month, and we'd like to continue with a profile about our fabulous nurse Heidi. Heidi is a very diligent and caring member of the team, with a lovely way with her patients.

Click ❤ to continue letting our nursing team know how appreciated they are - they are always working quietly in the background to ensure smooth running of patient care.

Heidi has always had an interest in animals and, after completing a week's work experience at Rossdales Equine Hospital, decided that equine veterinary nursing was the career for her! She started as a nursing assistant at Rossdales Equine Hospital, where she trained and qualified as an Equine Veterinary Nurse (REVN), subsequently working there for ten years.

From there she worked in a mixed practice before moving to a very busy equine hospital in Pembrokeshire. She arrived at Westover after marrying her husband, who hails from Norfolk.

She loves all aspects of her job whether it is bandaging, intensive care of a colic or supporting the vets on a day-to-day basis.

In her free time she enjoys being at home with herfamily, and spending time at the Beach hut in Cromer. She also enjoys walking and working her two Springer Spaniels (one of which is pictured!).

Why is Callum looking so happy?
Because he is modelling our new eco consumables!

As part of our ongoing green initiative (we’ve been part of Investors in the Environment since 2021), the large animal team at Westover have made the shift to using more environmentally-friendly consumables:

BD Emerald Green Syringes - Made using renewable electricity and 30% less plastic than comparable syringes.

Soffban natural - made from cellulose (wood fibre) rather than plastic-based polyester

B-Braun ecoflac fluid bottles - Unlike normal fluid bags, they don't contain PVC (disposal of which poses an environmental hazard) and have no outer packaging

Callum says “we’re delighted to have made the shift to some more eco-friendly products, another small step in our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability”.

Like this post if sustainable vet care is important to you, or tag the eco warrior in your life!

As part of veterinary nursing awareness month, we'd like to introduce a new face at Westover. Please join us in welcoming our new technician, Katie. Click ❤ to show your appreciation to our nursing team, who work so hard providing high levels of care (and cuddles!) to all of our patients.

Katie was a Nursing Assistant at Redwings for four years, where she gained a huge amount of valuable experience and developed her passion for working with animals. She's now excited to start a new chapter at Westover, where she is looking forward to learning more about farm work alongside equine care.

Outside of work, she loves spending time with her horses, competing in triathlons with friends, and taking her crazy dog on lots of adventures and walks!

Huge thank you to the owner of this gorgeous boy, who kindly gave permission for us to use his photo on our social platforms.

It's veterinary nursing awareness month - and we'd like to take a few moments to sing the praises of our nursing and technician team. These quiet heroes are always busy in the background keeping our veterinary team working smoothly and providing top-level care to our patients.

Click ❤ to let our nurses and techs know how appreciated they are by our clients!

We'd like to kick off our veterinary nursing awareness month by introducing our technician, Molly.

Molly's career began at Redwings Horse Sanctuary, which sparked her passion for the profession. She later joined Westover, where she thoroughly enjoys the variety of mixed practice, with cattle and Shetland ponies remaining her favorite patients.

Shortly after joining Westover, she trained and qualified as an SQP, which means a large portion of her time is spent running diagnostics and looking at poo samples. Her passion for all things equine worming is unparalleled!

When she's not in the clinic or at home on the farm with her husband and dogs, she enjoys diving. She recently achieved her PADI qualification, and celebrated by diving with whale sharks in the Philippines!

Equine health care plans
Many of our clients have now signed up to our equine health plans. We have a variety of options available tailored to the level of care desired for your horse, pony or donkey. Feedback from clients is that they love spreading the cost of the routine care over the year. We know the cost of living crisis is putting more pressure on our clients than ever before, and hope that this is one way we can offer some support.
