VetCompass at Royal Veterinary College reviewed anonymised clinical records from 167,751 dogs treated at Vets Now’s 60 emergency clinics in 2022 to identify all dogs diagnosed with heat-related illness (heatstroke). This is what the study found:

Lovely Romanian Rescue Nico. He has never had any grooming experience and we don’t have a lot of background knowledge for him but what an adorable and loving boy he is 🥰
He belongs to a dear friend of mine so we have met a few times out on our park walks.

He was an absolute superstar and considering he has never had any water on him ever he took to his bath like a pro! I gave him a really good de-shed to remove the dead coat, trimmed all of his nails, tidied him up and a thorough brush out.
Gold stars all round for you my handsome boy! 🤩👏🏼🐾

All of those winter toxins we worry about with our dogs and cats - grapes, raisins, and chocolate. This one is the one that worries me - ventolin or salbutamol.

I treated a dog recently who had played with and pierced one of these. He was extremely poorly but thankfully his owner had realised his pulse rate was extremely fast and brought him in.

When the weather gets colder us asthma suffers need our inhalers more so. Keep them out of reach!

Really tough couple of weeks with Zeus 😢

After a referral this week to Lumbury Park Vet Specialists following an abdominal ultrasound that raised a few concerns on 15th October and after more ultrasounds, Echocardiogram, x-rays, blood tests and a whole lot of other tests, poking and prodding he has been diagnosed with:

Cushings Disease,
Mitral Valve Heart Disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, possible Laryngeal Paralysis/Tracheal Collapse all on top of his Osteoarthritis 😭
He has been such a brave boy love him.
At this time all conditions can be medically managed so I have to monitor him daily and see how he goes as the Cushings medication may need to be tweaked. He will require regular check ups and blood tests.

He is stage B2 with his heart disease so may or may not go into heart failure as time goes on, Liver is also enlarged along with both adrenal glands so all I can do is take care of him the best way I can and Love him everyday we are blessed to be together. Hopefully with the medication this will be for a long time to come. He couldn’t be more Loved ♥️

Just so relieved to have him back home despite all of his bald bits! 🐾
