And that’s all from SFAVS for this year! Thank you to everyone who came to any of our talks and events throughout the year and to our junior reps for the work they’ve put in helping to organise the years events.

Next year, SFAVS will be left in the capable hands of Becca as I head off on rotations so we look forward to seeing what she’s got planned!

A final few reminders from me, please check your emails to see if you’ve won a raffle prize and organise collection and also make sure you join the new Surrey FAVS Facebook group for updates on any plans for next year!

Best wishes,
Abi 🙂

Sion Rowlands and Claire Wade from APHA are coming to give us a lunch time talk on dealing with notifiables on farm and careers in APHA. This talk will cover the key notifiable diseases on farm, what to do if you suspect one, how to report it and how APHA investigates as well as a chance to chat about careers in government veterinary. These are both areas not covered in great detail in curriculum. There will also be a chance for questions after!
We are really lucky that Sion and Claire have found time in their busy schedule to come and speak to us, especially with the past years avian influenza outbreaks, about this important topic so we hope to see you there!

BECOME THE NEXT SFAVS PRESIDENT 🐮

VetSoc AGM is on Friday 24th March at 5:30pm! The role of SFAVS President will be up for election so sign up using the link in the Week 6 VetSoc email if you are interested in the role. You don’t need to have had a previous role in SFAVS or VetSoc to apply, just an interest in farm and keeping SFAVS active! It’s been a really rewarding role over the last year so if you are interested then I would recommend applying. Feel free to DM us or send me an email ([email protected]) if you have any questions about the role!

Want to know more about one of the biggest welfare issues affecting dairy cattle in the UK?

On Tuesday, we will be joined by Nick Bell, vet and director of Herd Health Consultancy, for a talk about lameness via Zoom. He will be introducing lesions, treatment and hoof trimming technique.

Nick sits on the committee running the Register of Mobility Scorers (RoMS), is a RoMS instructor, chief auditor for the Cattle Hoofcare Standards Board, an instructor on the UK Level 4 professional foot trimming course, delivers training for the AHDB Healthy Feet Programme and is an honorary associate professor at Nottingham University. Nick is both a European specialist and RCVS recognised specialist, we are very lucky to have him speak to us.
