Hi Everyone, I hope you’re all well and enjoying the sun!
With the hot weather here to stay, there will be some changes to how I run things.
Firstly, when days are exceeding 23 degrees, my priority will be dogs that are home alone. They will either get a super early walk when appropriate or have a check-in during the day. Dogs that are home with people will have their time slot cancelled, you will not be charged for this!
Even when it gets cooler, ie next week hopefully back down to 15 degrees, I will still be doing earlier walks as the humidity is also a massive factor in heat stoke and exhaustion! My priority is the welfare of your pets and making sure they’re happy and healthy in the hot weather!
If you find yourself in a situation where you feel your dog is getting over heated, follow these steps:
First, find shade, cool your dog using cold water, not room temperature water, fit and health dogs can be submerged in water to get body temperature down!
Older dogs and puppy’s should be rinsed with cold water and fanned to help evaporate the water. Rinse and repeat until their heart rate/breathing/ body temperature reduces.
Only then will you transport them to a vets! Make sure to call ahead and ensure that your car AC is working to help cool them down further while transporting. This is imperative as transporting while in active heat stroke or exhaustion will increase the likely hood of a negative outcome for your dogs!
Remember water should be given little and often to avoid bloat!
