Sunny Days...with summer fast approaching, Furry Popins (Furry Tail Events) has a duty of care and legal responsibility to ensure the safety & wellbeing of every dog I look after.

I will never risk your dog suffering exertional heatstroke or hyperthermia, which can occur in as little as 30 minutes, if they are exercised in hot humid weather with little shade, or opportunity to cool down and rest, leading to an impaired ability to dissipate heat. Note - Brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds are especially prone due to their respiratory limitations.

Furry Popins’ policy is NOT to walk dogs if the outside temperature is 21⁰C or above, and I will assess the weather on a weekly and daily basis. Therefore, in the event of hot humid weather walks may be rearranged, rescheduled, cancelled / varied or shortened, and I will communicate any changes as a matter of priority, including:

• Rearrange appointments to earlier / later that day when its cooler.
• Reschedule walks to a cooler day.
• Cancellation of walk - I will vary the appointment to a POPIN, if required, engaging in stimulating activities – such as scent work, training, toilet break and cuddles…any dog familiar with my home are welcome here for company and stimulation.
• Shorten walk, if it is safe to do so re-route to a shaded woodland area, and supplement with enrichment activities in their home. In this instance the walk will be on the lead to minimise exertion and to prevent dehydration. Dogs will never be left unattended in vehicles, and fresh cool water & bowls will always be carried.
