🌍 Did You Know? 🐦

Every year, swallows make one of the most remarkable journeys in the natural world, migrating between South Africa and the UK.

These tiny birds travel up to 10,000 km (6,200 miles) each way, crossing deserts, mountains, and seas to return to the same breeding grounds year after year. Despite weighing less than 25 grams, they navigate thousands of miles with incredible accuracy.

Swallows arrive in the UK during spring to breed and raise their young, before heading back to the warmer climates of southern Africa for the winter.

Their epic migration is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary endurance and instinct found in nature.

Amrose Equestrian Retirement Home is looking for a reliable and experienced Freelance Groom to join our friendly team.

📍 Presswood, Great Missenden

📅 From the end of October to the end of March

🍁 Hours:• Mornings- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday. Approximately 2–3 hours.
📌Ideal for a groom local to the area to fit around existing work commitments•
🤲 Working alongside our current groom

Duties may include supporting our current groom with:
• Feeding and caring for all retired horses
• Mucking out
• Turning out/bringing in horses
• Filling haynets and water
• General yard duties
• Haying winter paddocks
• Maintaining high standards of horse care

We are looking for someone who is confident around horses, hardworking, reliable, and able to work efficiently as part of a team.

🐴Equine Flu-Is Your Horse Protected?🐴

Equine Influenza (Equine Flu) is a highly contagious respiratory disease that can spread rapidly between horses — even those with limited contact with others.

Signs to watch for include:
✔️ High temperature
✔️ Coughing
✔️ Nasal discharge
✔️ Lethargy
✔️ Loss of appetite

With an increase in confirmed cases, we are recommending 6-monthly Equine Flu vaccinations for horses most at risk, including those that compete regularly.

Regular vaccination not only helps protect your horse but also reduces the risk of outbreaks within the wider equine community.

We particularly recommend discussing 6-monthly vaccinations if your horse:

🔹 Is elderly, young, or clinically vulnerable

Have you ever noticed a horse lying down while the others stand nearby? 🐴

It’s a common sight in healthy horse herds and usually nothing to worry about. Horses do lie down to rest and enter deep sleep, something they can’t fully achieve while standing. Because lying down makes them more vulnerable, herd mates often remain standing around them.

This behavior is part of a horse’s natural survival instinct. The standing horses stay alert and keep watch while their companion rests, creating a sense of safety within the herd. Later, the roles may switch, allowing each horse a chance to relax.

It’s a beautiful reminder of how horses rely on one another, using trust, teamwork, and instinct to stay safe and healthy. ❤️

Freelance Role.

Based in Prestwood, Great Missenden.

📣 Days - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday Mornings.

📣 Hours - approx 2 hrs, maybe 3 depending what is going on.

📣 Time - anytime between 7:30 and Midday/1pm. Ideally earlier the better (7:30-10:30/ 8-10am preferred) but open to options.

This role is working alongside the main yard groom.

Must have experience with horses but not necessarily having been a groom!

• Able to travel to and from
