Some cats need a little more than just the basics… and that’s exactly how I approach it 🐾

I had the pleasure of looking after Roxy, who made it very clear from the start that she enjoys attention, and lots of it. Making sure she felt settled, engaged, and properly fussed over was just as important as the day to day care.

Cat sitting is never one size fits all. Some cats prefer space, others want interaction, and it’s about reading that properly and responding to it, not forcing anything either way.

“Ellie was amazing. Roxy clearly adored her and she was expertly cared for. She even left the house immaculate.”

Looking after your home comes as part of the service too. You should be able to come back to everything exactly as you left it, along with a happy, relaxed cat.

When a cat like Roxy settles that well, it shows everything is being done right.

Keeping dogs cool in a heatwave ☀️🐾

Hot weather changes what your dog needs.

It’s not about pushing through your usual routine, it’s about adjusting it to keep them safe and comfortable.

A few simple changes make a big difference:

• Walk early or later in the day, not just when it feels cooler, but avoiding peak heat times. The sun is highest around midday, but the hottest part of the day often sits later, around 4pm when heat has built up
• Carry water and offer small, regular drink breaks rather than waiting until they’re overheated
• Keep walks shorter, slower, and more focused on sniffing and calm engagement rather than constant movement
• Build in rest stops and shade, don’t just keep going
• Swap some walks for training, enrichment, or mental stimulation at home

At home:
• Keep curtains or blinds drawn to block direct sun
• Use fans to improve airflow
• Make sure your dog has access to cool, shaded areas to rest

And always:
• Never leave your dog in a car, even for a few minutes

Hot weather isn’t the time to do more, it’s the time to do things differently.

Your dog relies on you to make those decisions for them.

Lola and Monty are a pair of nervous old folk. This means sometimes we can get out on our walks and sometimes we trade one in for a safe drop in.
But that doesn't mean we sacrifice on getting their activity levels up and building our bond!

Me and Lola have been playing fetch and the three of us have been doing tricks and having treaties! (The best part 😋)

Your dog doesn’t need more exercise 🐾

It’s one of the most common things I hear…
“I just need to tire them out more”

Longer walks. More running. More stimulation.

But more isn’t always better.

In a lot of cases, dogs that are constantly “on the go” don’t become calmer, they become more conditioned to high levels of arousal. They get fitter, quicker to escalate, and harder to switch off.

Sometimes, all that extra exercise just builds a muscled, manic machine.

What they often need instead is:
• Clear structure
• Predictable routines
• Opportunities to be calm, not just active
• Guidance on how to make better choices

A dog that can walk for hours but can’t settle at home isn’t lacking exercise, they’re lacking balance.

That doesn’t mean exercise isn’t important, it is. But it’s only one piece of the picture.

Calm behaviour is something that’s built, not something that just happens once they’re tired enough.

If you’re feeling stuck in the cycle of “doing more” but not seeing change, you’re not alone.

Consistency makes all the difference, especially when visits become part of your dog’s routine 🐾

I’ve been supporting Eddie with regular evening drop ins over the past year, alongside a training walk, making sure he’s not just let out and fed, but properly engaged and settled each time.

Over time, that familiarity builds. Knowing the routine, understanding what he needs, and keeping things calm and predictable means he can fully relax during visits.

“Ellie fed and played with Eddie as well as taking him out for a toilet break and he was totally happy and relaxed during her visits. She kept us really well informed during each visit via WhatsApp updates. I would totally recommend Ellie and we will be using her again.”

Those updates aren’t just a nice extra, they’re part of the service. You should always know how your dog is doing while you’re away.

📍 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – limited daytime slots

📍 Friday – 10am, 11am and 12pm

These are ideal if you need consistent weekly support or want to get something secured ahead of the summer.
