3 TOP REASONS why your dog should NOT be leading the walk. πβπ¦Ί
1.) If your dog is leading the walk (with tension on the lead or without tension) they are physically and mentally leading the walk. Meaning they are going to be more likely to take actions into their own paws for any oncoming distractions they may not be too sure of or have negative associations with. πΎ
2.) A dog pulling on a walk means that the dog does not understand lead pressure (the owner may not either). Think of this logically, if there is pressure on the lead the dog should be coming into the pressure, not trying to restrict it! This means huge improvements need to be made with your communication and lead skills.πΎ
3.) You will see many trainers talk about βsniffie walksβ. Now I am by no means saying you should not allow your dog to sniff, however there should be a time and a place for it and it should be under your control not the dogs. Balance is key π. If your dog is forever sniffing on a walk this is the equivalent to an owner constantly being on their phone whilst walking the dog. If this sounds like you, you need to build on your relationship with your dog. Taking your dog out for a walk should be an enjoyable bonding experience for both parties. πΎ
