Warm Weather Advice☀️🕶️🏝️
With the forecasted hot weather here’s some tips to keep in mind.
And remember the advice ‘Wet then Vet!’

Tips to keep our Dogs Cool🧊
🐕Don’t go for walks in the heat (missing a walk has never killed a dog but heatstroke has!)
🐩Don’t throw balls for your dog or encourage physical exertion
🐕Never leave them in hot cars

Symptoms of Heatstroke🔥
🩺Heavy panting and difficulty breathing
🩺 Excessive drooling
🩺Pet appears lethargic, drowsy or uncoordinated
🩺Collapse
🩺Vomiting

Emergency First Aid🏥
⛑️Move dog to a shaded area
⛑️Pour cool temperature water over them (do not cover them with a wet towel - this will heat very quickly and insulate instead of cool!)
⛑️Give cool (not ice cold) water
⛑️Contact the practice for advice on 01324 472915

How to keep our Cats Cool🧊
🐈Encourage them to stay indoors when the sun is at its warmest (usually between 10am and 3pm)
🐈‍⬛Provide lots of shaded areas for them
🐈Keep their water bowl topped up with fresh water and ensure they have access to water outside too
🐈‍⬛Encourage them to drink regularly
🐈Utilise a fan on indoors to keep the air circulating
🐈‍⬛Wrap a frozen bottle of water in a towel and place it near where your cat sleeps (don’t put it directly on your cat or force them to be near it)

🦷🐾 A little extra care for this handsome boy! 🐾🦷
During Bertie’s routine castration, we noticed one of his lower canines was misaligned and digging into the roof of his mouth — ouch! 😣 Luckily, we were able to correct it before it caused more pain or damage.

This is a great reminder of how important dental health is for our pets! 😁🐶 Problems like misaligned teeth, tartar buildup, or hidden infections can cause a lot of discomfort — and our furry friends often won’t show obvious signs.
🩺 Regular vet check-ups, even for something unrelated, can help catch these hidden issues early. If you're unsure about your pet’s teeth or notice bad breath, drooling, or difficulty eating, it might be time for a dental check! 🪥💙

Remember, all clients are entitled to visit us for a free dental health check as part of our Summer Smiles campaign🦷 You’ll also get a free tooth brushing kit to take away at your appointment🪥😁
Call reception to arrange your appointment on 472915 or book online:

🩺🐰 Rosie the Rabbit is a brave girl!
She visited us for her ovariohysterectomy (spay) here she is resting comfortably in post-op recovery — nibbling on some tasty dandelion leaves! 🌿
Did you know it's super important for rabbits to keep eating after surgery? To keep their digestion system working smoothly.💚

Rabbit Awareness Week

Rabbits need annual vaccinations, just like cats and dogs.

Vaccinations protect against Myxomatosis and Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD), both of which can be fatal.

It is recommended to neuter all rabbits. Male-female pairs require neutering to prevent breeding, but same-sex pairs can fight if not neutered. Female rabbits also have an 80% chance of developing cancer of the uterus during their lifetime, which is eliminated by neutering.

Rabbit Awareness Week

Providing the correct nutrition for your rabbit can prevent lot of common health problems.

A rabbit’s diet should be predominantly fibre, as they need to chew almost continuously – their teeth grow throughout their lives and chewing helps prevent them overgrowing.

Find out what a rabbit’s diet should include: vetcollection.co.uk/health/rabbit-care-guide

Rabbit Awareness Week

Rabbits are social creatures and should be kept in pairs or larger groups.
Introducing adult rabbits can lead to potentially lethal fighting; don't be tempted to get one rabbit and add a friend later.

Once two or more rabbits are bonded, they should remain together, including for vet trips. It is no longer recommended to keep rabbits and guinea pigs together as it is very difficult to meet both animals’ needs.
