🐾 Three Gentlemen, A Pigeon Army & An Unexpected Disney Princess Moment 🕊️✨
(Safe to say dog sitting wasn't the only species I ended up supervising yesterday!!) ❤️🐾🕊️
SO... I spent my yesterday afternoon & early evening with three very distinguished gentlemen;
Albus, Rufus and Baldrick.
Now, many of you know... Albus takes his self-appointed role as Head of Security VERY seriously. 🐶🐾📣 👀
A lot of older dogs, particularly rescues, can become a little hypervigilant about sudden movement.
As they age; changes in hearing, eyesight or confidence can mean unexpected movement triggers an immediate:
"OI... What's happening?!"
..Which, in Albus's case, translates to: BORK !
Stand up? BORK.
Walk into another room? BORK.
Head towards the back door? Multiple BORKs.
Move a muscle without prior authorisation?... you get the idea... 😅
Thankfully, we quickly found a system that worked... A little whistle & gentle warning before moving was basically my way of saying:
"Human standing up now. Nothing exciting. No burglars. No foxes. No incoming apocalypse."
Giving him that extra second to process what was happening meant his alarm system didn't need to go into full emergency broadcast mode every time I fancied a cup of tea or needed the loo. ❤️
The highlight of the day, however, came when I popped outside for some fresh air and accidentally became a Disney Princess... I WAS NOT PREPARED! But I bloody LOVED it ♡ O M G...
Not one... not two... but apparently an entire pigeon army had decided I was trustworthy. 🕊️👸🏻✨
Two landed directly on my arm and I was absolutely ecstatic... I have genuinely never experienced that before.
A third looked like it was considering joining them before deciding there probably wasn't enough room left on the human perch. 😂
The best part?
The dogs weren't remotely bothered.
In fact, they seem to have an ongoing alliance with the local pigeon population.
The pigeons watch the dogs.
The dogs watch the pigeons.
Everyone appears equally fascinated by one another.
The magic ended when I ventured further into the garden and the whole flock launched themselves into the air, creating what can only be described as a pigeon-powered turbine as they all flapped up onto the roof. 💨😂 That was an experience!
From there they sat on the roof...fence... guttering... neighbouring houses... watching my every move; presumably waiting for me to drop food 🤣 Sorry birdies - not something I came equipped with!
Bloody marvellous time though! 👏
I only hope I get to return sooner rather than later ♡
