☀️ Keep Your Dog Safe in the Heat! 🐾

With the heatwave in full swing, it’s so important to take extra care of our furry friends. Here are a few simple but life-saving tips to keep your dogs happy and healthy in this hot weather:

🐾 Walk early or late – Stick to early morning or late evening walks when it’s cooler. Pavements can burn paws during peak heat!

💧 Hydration is key – Make sure fresh, clean water is always available at home and on walks.

🌳 Shade over sun – Encourage rest in cool, shaded areas. Avoid long periods outside in direct sunlight.

🚗 Never leave dogs in cars – Even with windows cracked, temperatures can soar within minutes. It’s not worth the risk.

🐶 Watch for signs of heatstroke: Excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, wobbly legs or collapse — if you notice any of these, contact your vet immediately.

Let’s enjoy the sunshine safely — our dogs rely on us to keep them cool and protected! 💛

💜 Meet the bravest of boys, Jake!💛 After having a little accident that left his paw in a sorry state, Jake required regular visits to the practice so the team could nurse him back to health 🥰 He was a very good boy and always happy to have attention from the whole team 🐾

⚠ Avian flu ⚠

We’d like to keep you informed about recent cases of avian influenza (bird flu) detected in Wales and how it may affect pet owners and bird keepers.

Avian influenza is a zoonotic disease, meaning it can spread from animals to humans. Although risks remain low, we recommend taking every precaution to safe guard you and your animals health.

📍 Recent Developments:

The Welsh Government has confirmed:
Two outbreaks of bird flu in poultry—one in Pembrokeshire (23 June), and one in Wrexham (24 June)

🐕 What This Means for You & Your Pets:

🐾 Keep dogs on a lead in rural/coastal areas, especially near ponds and lakes.
🐾 Prevent pets from scavenging wild birds or raw poultry.
🐾 Avoid contact with wild birds.
🐾 If you come across and injured bird, do not handle them directly, obtain guidance from a vet practice / RSPCA or bird hospital.

🐔 Pet Birds & Poultry: If you keep birds at home, follow the Welsh Government’s biosecurity guidance—keep birds indoors or netted where possible and away from wild birds.

🦆 Wildlife: Do not touch sick or dead wild birds.
