C r u f t s 2 0 2 5...🐾

Ive had a wonderful couple of days embracing all things dog! I do believe all dog lovers should experience a trip to Crufts at least once in their life, as much as breeding and showing is not everyone's cup of tea, it's genuinely so much more than that.

Dogs are absolutely fantastic creatures and they should be celebrated!

Obviously I am chuffed to bits the Whippet won Best in Show!

Here's a fantastic post from our friends at Heritage Vets.

I'm regularly encouraging owners to have their dogs teeth checked over by a veterinary professional and often I'm met with the response of 'they are still eating' - this x-ray is a prime example of why we should be paying more attention to our dogs teeth.

What we can see is often just the tip of the iceberg!

This is what a dental abscess looks like on x-ray!

You can see a large pocket of bone loss caused by the infection. Incredibly, this tooth looked fairly normal on the surface, and the patient was eating well.

Our pets usually do not tell us if their teeth are sore - this is why regular checks, and full mouth X-rays at any sign of problems, are essential to keep them comfortable :)

This little dog had lots of dental work done and has recovered very nicely!

Highly recommend puppy classes starting soon! I have trained with Sarah and Ally from Zoom consistently since 2016 with all of my dogs. I honestly can't recommend them enough.

Due to the red weather warning currently in place, we have made the decision in line with government guidelines to close the shop. All appointments for today have been cancelled and we will reorganise these as soon as we can.

Please stay safe!

🔻Do not walk your dogs

🔻Do not let dogs out in to gardens unattended

🔻Be vigilant of garden gates being open that are normally closed and damage to fencing which could render your garden no longer secure

🔻Make sure your dog is wearing ID on collars/harnesses - if for any reason they got out this is the easiest way to reunite them to you

🔻Take them to the toilet on a secure collar/harness/ and lead - even in your garden

🦮How to help your dog adjust to winter walks.🦮

🐾Scottish winters can be unpredictable and it can benefit our dogs to change how we walk them in winter. Here are some hints and tips. Any other helpful suggestions are welcome in the comments.🐾

1. Dress your dog appropriately: In colder weather, it's important to keep your dog warm and protected. Consider getting them a winter coat to provide an extra layer of insulation (some breeds need this more than others depending on thickness of their own furry coat). Additionally, paw wax can help protect their paws from ice, salt, and other harsh elements.

2. Adjust the length and intensity of walks: During winter, it's essential to be mindful of your dog's tolerance for cold weather. Shorten the duration of walks and adjust the intensity based on your dog's breed, age, and overall health. Some dogs may require more frequent breaks or shorter walks in colder temperatures.

3. Choose safe walking routes: Be cautious of icy or slippery surfaces that can pose a risk to your dog's safety. Opt for well-maintained paths or pavements, and avoid areas with excessive ice or snow buildup.

4. Stay visible: Winter days are shorter and darker, so it's crucial to make sure you and your dog are visible to others. Consider using reflective gear or attaching a reflective collar or leash to your dog.

5. Maintain proper hydration: Although it may be colder outside, your dog still needs access to fresh water. Dehydration can occur even in cold weather, so make sure your dog stays hydrated before, during, and after walks.
