Remembrance Day has always been special to me and I have always been a part of the Remembrance Day parade in town in some way.
This year I couldn’t make the parade but I did my silence this morning and wanted to recognise the sacrifices that both humans and animals made during all of the wars!
The purple poppy represents the animals that in silence played their part, the mercy dogs that would take morphine to the wounded, the elephants and horses that were used for moving heavy artillery, the rats that were used in minefields as bomb detectors and the trench cats that were used to keep the rats at bay and for companionship- the part of history that no one speaks of.
The red poppy- each part having a a specific meaning that not many people know of. The red- for all of the blood shed during the conflicts, the black for the mourning of family and friends of those that paid the ultimate sacrifice, the green for the life that grew on the battlefield after the end of the wars and finally the leaf, that is meant to point to 11 o’clock to symbolise the hour that the conflicts stopped!
Lest we forget the sacrifices that were made to ensure we had the freedom and life which we each have today!
We will remember them!
