🐾 “£70 to groom a dog?!” 🐾

I hear this one a lot.

But when you bring your dog to me, you’re not paying for “a wash and a haircut.”

You’re paying for someone who knows how to safely handle nervous puppies, wriggly adolescents, elderly dogs, rescue dogs, and dogs who would honestly rather be anywhere else. 😅

You’re paying for years of training, experience, professional equipment, insurance, quality products, and the knowledge to spot things that owners often miss.

You’re paying for the patience it takes to carefully remove painful matting, trim nails safely, dry a coat correctly, and create a style that suits both the dog and their lifestyle.

Most importantly…

You’re paying for your dog’s comfort and welfare. 💗

A good groom isn’t just about making a dog look cute for Instagram.

It’s about keeping skin healthy, preventing painful matting, keeping eyes and ears clean, maintaining hygiene, monitoring changes in their body, and helping them feel comfortable in their own coat.

Of course everyone has a budget, and that’s completely understandable. But behind every groom is a skilled professional doing physical, demanding work because they genuinely care about the dogs in their care.

For me, every dog that walks through my door gets treated like one of my own. 🐾🌸

And that’s something I’ll never compromise on.

🥵 Heatwave season = time to check those coats 👀 ✂️ Keep coats maintained (matting can trap heat) 🐾 Walk early morning or later evening
💧 Fresh water available all day
🌳 Choose shade over direct sun
🚫 Don’t shave double coats unless advised
🥵 Watch for heat stress signs — excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, bright red gums
❄️ Cooling mats / paddling pools can be great for some dogs
🚗 Never leave dogs in cars (even for a few mins!)

Bonus: if your dog is overdue a groom book asap as June is filling up already ☀️🐶💗

Save this for later ↗️

Well… this definitely wasn’t on my 2026 plan 😭💀

I’ve unfortunately broken my foot and am now rocking a very glamorous orthopaedic boot for the next few weeks 🥲

Because grooming is such a physical job (and I need to safely handle your lovely doggies!), I’ve sadly had to cancel appointments while I recover.

I’m hoping to make a very slow return by grooming just ONE dog per day initially so I’m not on my feet for too long while healing 🩷

If your appointment has been affected, please don’t worry, I’ll be working through everybody to rearrange appointments as fairly as possible over the coming weeks.

Thank you all so much for the kindness, patience and lovely messages already. Small businesses really do feel the love during moments like this 🥹🐾

My socials will still be active with pre-recorded content and scheduled posts, so please don’t be confused if you still see lots of fluffy faces popping up on your feed 🐶😂

Sometimes the most painful matting on a dog… is the bit owners never even see 😔🐾

This little one came in today with matting packed tightly between the paw pads. Every step would have felt like walking on stones pulling at the skin 💔

When I tried to remove it, he bit me and honestly? I don’t blame him. He wasn’t “naughty”… he was uncomfortable. Imaging having stones in your shoes all day everyday 😫

Matting between paw pads can:
🐾 Pull painfully on the skin
🐾 Trap dirt, moisture & bacteria
🐾 Lead to sores and infections
🐾 Make dogs hate having their feet touched

This is why regular grooming and maintenance matters so much not just for looking cute, but for comfort too 🩷

A lot of dogs labelled “bad for feet” are actually just scared because it hurts.

Please check your dog’s paw pads regularly, especially Doodles and dogs in mud water etc 🐶✨

🧸🌸 What better way to kick off this month’s Teddy Bear’s Picnic photo booth than with a little dog actually called Bear 🥹🌸

I genuinely don’t think I could’ve planned this any better 😭💗

Little Bear stepped into the setup looking like he walked straight out of a storybook… surrounded by picnic baskets, flowers, teddy bears and all the soft pink spring vibes 🧺🍓🦋

This month every pup visiting Full Bloom Grooming gets their turn in my Teddy Bear’s Picnic photo booth after their groom — and I’m already obsessed with the photos coming out of it ✨

I wanted this setup to feel cosy, whimsical and nostalgic… the kind of picture that makes you smile the second you see it 💕

And honestly… Bear understood the assignment perfectly 🧸

Sometimes social media can make the dog grooming industry look competitive, cliquey or full of pressure… but I believe there is also so much kindness 🩷

This week, a lovely friend I met through dog grooming sent me this little care package after knowing I’ve been struggling a bit lately. We actually met on a business course through grooming, and over time she’s become a genuine friend to me. Thank you 🫶🏻

It just reminded me that this industry is full of good people! People who understand the long days, the emotional exhaustion, the pressure we put on ourselves, the physical strain, the worry, the burnout… and who still choose to lift each other up anyway 🐾

Dog groomers see a lot. We care deeply. We give so much of ourselves to everyone else’s dogs every single day, and sometimes we forget to be kind to ourselves too.

So this is just a little reminder today:
✨ Check in on your grooming friends
✨ Support each other instead of competing
✨ Celebrate each other’s wins
✨ Be gentle with yourself when things feel heavy

There is room for all of us to succeed without tearing each other down 🤍

Very grateful for the friendship group this industry has brought me… and for the people who remind you you’re not alone 🩷🐶

Someone said to me recently:
“that much, JUST for a haircut”.
It stung a bit, made me feel like I had overcharged when in reality I’d spent 3 hours with their dog, who was overdue, had matting and was being less than... cooperative shall we say i
I feel like people don’t always realise what actually goes into a grooming appointment and if I’m honest I didn’t before I became a dog groomer.
The haircut?
That’s honestly one of the smallest parts of what we do.
What you don’t see is everything behind the scenes: the prep, the handling, the patience, the safety, the products, the maintenance costs, the clean-up, the rent, electric, water- there is so much to pay for.
So when you see the price at checkout, you’re not just paying for a “haircut” -
you’re paying for the full care, time, and skill that got your dog looking and feeling their best
I get it... prices have gone up and it can feel like a shock.
But it’s not personal
It’s just what it actually costs now to run a grooming business properly, safely, and to a high standard. At Full Bloom Grooming, I could absolutely rush more dogs through in a day.

But I don’t want to.

Because I care more about quality, comfort, and the experience your dog has while they’re with me.

I want dogs to leave feeling calm.
Comfortable.
Pampered.
Loved.

Not stressed and hurried.

So when you support a small grooming business, you’re not “just paying for a haircut.”

You’re supporting someone who has chosen to dedicate their days to caring for animals properly.

And trust me…

The dogs are worth every second. 🌸🐾

I heard the nails before I saw the dog.

Click.
Click.
Click.

Across the pavement outside my salon.

His owner laughed nervously.

“I know… they’ve gotten a bit long.”

But when he stood still on the floor, I noticed something else.

He wasn’t standing properly.

His paws were slightly splayed.
His posture looked awkward.
Almost cautious.

And the second he sat down, I understood why.

His nails had curled so long they were changing the way he walked.

Not because his owner didn’t care.

Because life happens.

Most owners don’t realise how quickly nails can overgrow.
Especially on smaller dogs.
Older dogs.
Dogs who mainly walk on softer ground.

And unlike overgrown hair…

You can’t always see the discomfort straight away.

But dogs feel it.

Imagine wearing shoes that force your toes upwards every single step.

That constant pressure travels through the paws…
Into the legs…
Into the joints.

Over time it can affect posture, movement, and confidence.

I lifted one paw gently.

He pulled it back immediately.

Not aggression.

Anticipation.

Like he’d already decided nail trims were something unpleasant you just had to survive.

So we slowed everything down.

One paw at a time.
Tiny clips.
Breaks in between.
Lots of reassurance.

No wrestling.
No panic.
No “just get it done.”

By the third paw…

He stopped pulling away.

And when we finally finished, something really small happened.

But it stayed with me.

He stood up…
Took a few steps…
Then stretched.

A long, proper, relieved stretch.

Like his feet could finally breathe again.

His owner looked shocked.

“I didn’t realise it was affecting him that much,” she said.

And honestly?

Most people don’t.

That’s why regular nail trims matter so much more than people think.

Not for appearance.

For comfort.
Movement.
Confidence.
Welfare.

Sometimes the smallest parts of grooming make the biggest difference.

And sometimes…

Relief sounds like silence.
