It has to be said that James did an incredible job building the arena at Sparr Farm. It’s held up really well in this dry weather with no issues with it being deep or dusty. Every horse person can agree that it’s an absolute godsend being with someone that’s so good with the machines and able to manage our farms with such ease, including homegrown hay 🤩 JSA Farming

Our lovely 20m x 40m floodlit arena is available to hire. Non-wax surface. Post and rail. And amazingly it is not deep at all despite the dry weather! Plenty of parking available. Currently no jumps available but we are happy for people to use the arena to practice for gradings, free schooling, etc, due to the high fencing.

We would also consider letting people park at the farm to go out hacking if anyone is interested.

And so Project Ella properly starts with our first trot under saddle today. Thank you as always to Charlotte for giving me that on the ground support that is oh so important with the babies 🩵

I haven’t had a baby horse for a long time, since I bought Uma in 2020! But having spent many years beforehand on babies and a few of rides here and there for clients since then, it’s amazing how quickly it all comes back. She’s definitely got a strong personality but I’m excited to have a more buzzy horse again - there’s a certain thrill to it 🤭

Little Miss Consistent 🥰

We headed off to Hascombe Farm Equestrian Centre today to run through our test before the Areas next week. I’ve managed to flare up an old injury from when I broke my back a couple of years ago so not on my best form but Uma did a lovely test for 🥈

We decided not to do our second test as I wanted to have a sit on Ella this afternoon and didn’t want to push my back too hard - there’s always another day!

Well yesterday we were supposed to head off to Speedgate for a practice run before the Areas but after closely monitoring the forecast and weighing up the pros and cons, it just wasn’t worth loading Uma up for a near 2 hour journey on the M25 in what was going to be 35 degree heat. So instead we went for a quiet hack and enjoyed listening to the sounds of the birds in the trees 🐦‍⬛

We’ll be winging it at the Areas but fingers crossed it’s not too spooky 👻

Following completion of our Summer qualifications in early June, Uma has had a bit of a quieter month hacking and the treadmill, and James, William, and I even managed to get some time to go on my family’s annual holiday to Studland/Sandbanks! We’re now building up again ready to move up a level and focus on Winter qualifications.

Thank you to Leanne Wall for another fantastic lesson, Uma definitely forgot how to “dressage” at the beginning but we got back into the swing of it by the end, working on getting Uma to collect and sit more.

We also caught the first glimpse of rain for a very long time on camera 😱🌧️

Ella looking very smart kitted out in her Devoucoux tack. The saddle is heavenly to sit on and has made the backing process rather pleasant so far!

The fencing we sold recently may have given me an excuse to add to the Devoucoux collection 🙈
