Out at 8am this morning for a hack to beat the heat ☀️

Well we started the day with a rather warm lesson with Leanne Wall. Uma was absolutely awesome, despite the heat, and we started to explore baby piaffe and passage to get her to collect and hold herself a bit more. The trailer is well ventilated and we had two massive containers of water which Uma had doused on her before and after the lesson with some Nettex No Rinse Lavender Wash, and managed to beat the worst of the heat but definitely not ideal conditions!
And we finished the day in the pool, cooling off as well as getting some laps in for fitness 🏊‍♀️💪

A quick trip over to for their BD show at the weekend. I had a pretty gnarly stomach bug and fever going on so the main aim was to just try and get another qualifying score for the regionals instead of focusing on being too competitive. We managed to get the qualifying score we needed and Uma, as always, took care of me. For a jumping bred warm blood who’s rather long and not the most uphill, she certainly tries her heart out at dressage!

The 110 also had its maiden voyage towing the trailer. It’s never towed before so I’m sure it was a bit of a surprise to its system. The extra horsepower in this engine meant it pulled like a train 🤩

They’ve arrived! Thank you to Equitogs for obtaining these lovely Bombers Blue Bits UK for Uma. I’ll now be slowly introducing these into Uma’s training as we focus on moving up the levels. I’ve been told from a young age that the horse and rider should always be training at a couple of levels above what they’re competing at so that it is second nature when they go into the ring - I have always stuck by this. Whilst Uma and I were competing at Elementary last year comfortably, finding my flow after having William and moving to a new farm has been tricky so we’ve not pushed too hard but I’m looking forward to cracking on with Uma as we start to establish a better routine again.

We’ve recently returned from a lovely road trip around Northumberland and Yorkshire. Whilst staying in Thirsk, it reminded me of the incredible opportunity I had a number of years ago to ride the young horses at Mount St John, as well as getting a valuable insight into their breeding operation as the pinnacle of British breeding in dressage. This only further reinforced the experience I gained over the years of watching my mum run a breeding program of her own, using the best bloodlines across various breeds and producing some really lovely horses, as well as an eye for a good stallion and a brilliant mare (after all 60% comes from the mare!). Combined with a stint at The Billy Stud on the breeding side, where I was exposed to breeding on a more industrial scale, even then it was amazing how they cared for each of those mares and foals with such individual knowledge of each one of them! All of this, alongside my competition experience, has helped me to gain my own unique understanding of breeding and given me a well rounded approach to work alongside James, with his previous experience of breeding, to produce some fantastic offspring at JSA Stud, as well as helping the new owner of Sparr Farm to venture into the world of breeding event horses.

There is always so much to learn, especially in the ever changing equine world, but for now we are so fortunate to have a wonderful team, including one of the best stud vets working with us, as well as a belief in the fact that we should never stray too far from the good old fashioned bloodlines 🙌

After a few weeks off from riding whilst we moved into our new farm and had a short holiday, it’s good to be back on and focusing on a busy year of training and competing 💪

⭐Product Feature - DEE ELLIPTICAL
The Dee is similar in action to the Eggbutt, it prevents pinching & gives a slightly more solid feel against the cheeks. This prevents the bit from being pulled through the mouth. The release is slower & pressure is applied quickly.

The Elliptical concentrates pressure onto a smaller surface area. This bit will suit a horse that pushes the bit with its tongue. The horse will draw its head back & tuck its chin in, finding a better balance.

A cold, wet and windy day out with Uma at . We were in the new (and, according to Uma, very spooky 👻) arena today so we had a quiet but accurate test getting another qualifying score and picking up 🥉 place.

A short break from competing and training now whilst we focus on other aspects of our lives but looking forward to our next competition in May hoping to collect some more qualifying scores 🤞
