Richard was laid to rest yesterday surrounded by family and friends.

A simple ceremony, a cardboard coffin covered in pictures drawn by Francesca and notes left by everyone else. Carried down to his grave by his kids and their partners, a grave which was begrudgingly dug by his four children and friends (realistically George did all the work there) due to him being a tight ass and not paying for a grave digger. Then we shovelled the dirt on top of him which was weirdly cathartic, Francesca also insisted on helping with this, launching large chunks of dirt on him exclaiming "got ya grandad" which certainly lifted everyone's spirits.

Perfect send off exactly as he wanted it. The end of an era for us and the shop too. We are now off to prep the Christmas dinner and make his famous pate for starters which he left very specific instructions for 😂

It is with great sadness that we let you all know that Richard passed away on the 20th of December. He was surrounded by his wife, mother and 4 children. He went peacefully at home, exactly how he wanted it and he is no longer suffering.
A massive thank you to mum, his wife of 40 years who has taken control of his care since his diagnosis and has done a fantastic job! He's not been an easy patient, stubborn till the end!
A thank you to Henry and Albert who have also helped mum with the care for dad and the heavy lifting that we couldn't do. And also sorting the huge amounts of admin that needed to be done!
A thank you to George who has sorted out dad's funeral to his wishes (which of course are not normal) and being emotional support for everyone. And helping me get the shop closed down quickly before he passed.

The shop was one of his biggest achievements and he was incredibly proud of it, he was relieved that it was all sorted before he passed and was very touched by all the wonderful messages we have received over the last few months.

Richard's 'funeral' will be a no frills, natural burial with no official ceremony (as per his wishes). When discussing specifically who he wants to be there, he said "I'll be dead, I don't fu***ng care". He was always so great with words.....so we are just having family and close friends attending as it will also be in the next couple of days so very short notice.

We will now spend Christmas together as a family and try and enjoy it for his Grandkids (his pride and joy) Francesca & Riley. He despised Christmas so anything to get out of it aye!

What an extremely busy weekend for us all. But it is done, remaining stock is being delivered to charities today, there really isn't much left at all!

Dad (Rich) you should be very proud of yourself and all the business has achieved over the years, it hasn't always been a breeze but we have always got through it one way or another. Now's your time to rest and not have to worry anymore!

For everyone asking, our dog and cat food can be purchased at Love2Pets . It will have a different name but it is the same food (made by one company), they also will deliver! So give them a message/call or pop and let them know it's food from Angell pets and they will be able to help as we have pre warned them what we sell the most of! They also do sell a range o f things for most animals so do check it out.

We would like to wish our customers all a very merry Christmas and a happy New year. No relaxing for me as I know have to start the Christmas wrapping!

I will attempt to make an appearance at the shop before we close, but this is a mammoth task. To get out of the house, I have to be hoisted out of bed, on to a commode, wheeled into the garage, hoisted onto an electric wheelchair and escorted 2.5 miles to the shop. All whilst being on a breathing machine as I am in type 2 respiratory failure. Rest assured that, as long as the batteries hold out, I look forward to seeing some of you there. I will be the one who looks like Davros from Doctor Who.

THIS IS AN ANNOUNCEMENT that we are closing for good on the 14th of December. This is probably not a surprise to many however it isn't something I could confirm until the landlords had all agreed to let us go (our lease still had two years left).

We are very proud of the business and it's a shame to leave at this point but I want to spend as much time with dad (Richard) while I still can due to his rapid decline. I know people mean well but being asked 60 x a day how Rich is doing is incredibly draining and will only be worse for me once he passes. Running the business on my own is never something I wanted to do and Richard has known this from the get go.

So with his full blessing we will be closing to the public for good Sunday the 14th of December (hours for the last day to be confirmed). Obviously everything needs to go, so everything in the shop is now 30% off (exclusions apply), once it's gone it's gone.

There will be some ex display Vivs, cages, and aviary panels coming up soon these are cash only and first come first served so keep and eye on the page for those!

I appreciate everyone who has offered support these past couple of months, it means a lot to us all! I know that this is quite a fast closure but we didn't get much notice and we need to take them up on it.

So from everyone at Angell Pets, thank you for the last 16 years and here's to a good last couple of weeks!

I know some customers have been asking after me following my post about my MND diagnosis. I continue to be looked after at home by my family as the inevitable deterioration continues. It was my birthday this week so here is Francesca looking after grandad. Don’t worry it’s a Bipap machine I’m on, not oxygen. I’m not that stupid.

I don't think we have introduced the newest member to the Angell Family. This is Oscar the 8 year old Yorkie who I adopted back in March due to his last owner sadly passing away. He has spent the last 7 months settling in well as if hes always been here! and he puts up with Francesca very well, he is her "best friend". It is so nice to have a dog in the family again after Venus passing away a couple of years ago. He might be in the shop fom time to time keeping me company so do say hello to him :)

We decided to give Lorraine (was orginally Leroy) an upgrade on her tank and attempt to an arid bioactive enclosure, something we have never mastered! Shes come a long way from being dumped on us at deaths door, dropped off for boarding in a terrible state and then never collected. Shes now such a friendly little soul and is definetly the boss over the boy thats in there too!

Please do not leave it until last minute, these products sell out before bonfire night every year and wholesalers are already running out of certain products. If you know your dog or cat has issues with the noises then you need to be prepared!
