Cooperative care & touch desensitisation. It feels as though most people forget about this very important skill with a young dog. When your dog inevitably needs to go to the groomers or the vet’s office, they will be poked and proded to cut a long story short. We can equip them from young with the skills to handle this, and so those already stressful experiences, aren’t so extra stressful for them. Otherwise, you end up with a dog who genuinely ‘will not let you trim their nails, will not let you put ear drops in when they have an infection, will not let you put eye drops in, a dog who is entirely overwhelmed by touch and bites the groomer’ - This isn’t just for show, this is a practical skill. This video is sped up, I take a very calm, relaxed and slow approach when I am working through this. You will gain nothing with an amped up dog. That young small pup you bring home at 8 weeks old is going to grow and turn into a real problem later down the line if you do not lay the foundations and build their skillset from the get go positively and calmly. You do not want to be faced with a bolshy adult 40KG dog staring you down once you try and pull out the nail clippers. Just an example. It starts in the beginning 💙
