When we all thought the hot weather and summer was over…. Boom! It’s back! Please be wary of walking your dog in weather above 20 degrees. Temperatures above this can cause heatstroke very quickly. Hot walks can also cause burnt paw pads, so please check your dogs paws even after an early morning or late night walk. If you can’t bear the pavement when touching it with your hand, your dog can’t bear a walk on it🐕 🐾

This is Teifion. He is my own dog who is also a stud dog so his coat must be kept in very good condition considering his little job for the Kennel Club. This isn’t a post to be bias although I must say I think he is a handsome chap😅. This one is about making sure the clips done on dog breeds are BREED SPECIFIC. I find it very important that all breeds are clipped to their breed standard.

Whilst giving a full shave can sometimes be vital and important for the summer heat like we are now currently experiencing, it is also important to make sure that shaving is only done if necessary. Clips will always be done by the breed code when I do grooms but if you would prefer a full shave then this can also be accommodated and accomplished. Teifions clip is to the Show-Type spaniel standard. Keeping the back short, feathering on his underbelly and on the backs of his legs as well as his chest. There are big veins that run down those areas so keeping some feathering can help prevent any injuries done in those areas when exploring the outdoors🐕

The Show-Type cocker spaniel clip✂️

This lovely boy came in with such a long coat and whilst he needed a mild shave down his back on his feet, he only required a breed-specific clip to promote his breed and length for the majority of his groom🐾

The Working Cocker Spaniel Clip✂️

Nala, a working-type cocker spaniel had her groom today. Working-type cocker spaniels tend to have shorter and more wirey coats to that of their show-type spaniel cousins. Workers do not need to keep their feathering as it can hinder their agile performances when being used on game hunts and racing through the thick fields of grass. However it is important to note that they do need to be brushed regularly to avoid any tangles in their ears especially🐾

The English Cocker Spaniel✂️

Cyril enjoyed his groom today in the comfort of his own home and as you can see, he is looking very handsome! For long haired cockers, it’s healthy to keep feathering on their tummies and legs as it acts as a protector of their vulnerable vein areas for any hedges they go through due to their adventurous nature🐾

The BEFORE & AFTER groom✂️

This is Fudge, she is a loving old English cocker spaniel and was in desperate need of a good groom due to some very tight mattes in her coat - mainly on her chest area. As you can see in the AFTER picture, she’s got quite the bald spot but that’s where there needed to be a very short shave.

Tips: Use a small metal bristled brush to cut through mucky and thick coats to get rid of any tangles. Afterwards, use some coconut oil on the areas where your dog mattes the most as it essentially acts as a detangler and it’s also so beautifully smelling🐾
