Hi, my name is Mags Alexander and I am a fully trained and insured Clinical Canine Massage Practitioner and a member of the Canine Massage Guild - www.k9-massageguild.co.uk/
As a canine massage therapist using the 4 disciplines of massage including, Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports Massage and Myofascial Release together with the Lenton Method™ http://www.k9-massageguild.co.uk/the-lenton-method/ I can help to ;-
Rehabilitate, improve flexibility, mobility and ease the pain following soft tissue and muscular injuries, commonly seen as lameness or slowing down.
Ø Support orthopaedic conditions such as Arthritis, Hip / Elbow Dysplasia, Luxating Patella and Spondylosis by improving the health and flexibility of muscles and tendons that have to work harder due to a joint weakness by reducing tightness, trigger points and relieving myofascial pain.
Ø Improve / speed up post operative recovery following certain surgeries such as Cruciate Ligament repair or Luxating Patella.
Massage is suitable for all sizes and breed of dogs from those involved in sports / performance, service, pets and especially for older dogs with the aim of benefitting the overall health, well-being and quality of life - for dogs of all ages.
Many dogs hide pain and discomfort, some more than others, so how can you tell? Start by look out for the subtle signs and changes that something is not quite right. Such as gait and/or posture irregularities, changes in behaviour/character, performance issues in sporting dogs, changes to their activities of daily living, all of which massage can benefit as well as providing natural pain relief to assist with pain management. The Canine Massage Guild have developed a consultation aid (The 5 Principles of Pain) which goes into more detail as to what to look out for, which you can download directly from http://www.k9-massageguild.co.uk/the-5-principles-of-pain/.
Results from massage can be seen between 1-3 sessions and Owners have seen the following improvements after the treatments:
Ø More active and sociable dog
Ø Improved sporting performance and stamina
Ø Improved mood / temperament, happier more energetic dog
Ø Enjoying longer walks again – living life to the full.
Ø Coping better with arthritis – reduced discomfort (especially for dogs who are NSAID intolerant)
Ø Resolved or reduced lameness / stiffness.
Ø Activities of Daily Living, such as jumping in and out of the car, going up and down stairs and jumping on and off the sofa are managed with greater ease.
Ø Moving more freely due to the increased range of motion and mobility – better gait and posture
Ø More willing to be touched / petted, groomed and examined due to resolving trigger points and myofascial pain.
Massage can be a valuable hands on check for all dogs by helping to pick up on any potential issues before they become a problem for young or active dogs and for those with chronic conditions to help keep them in the best condition with maintenance massages as and when required.
I primarily offer massage throughout Glasgow and the West of Scotland from the “dog house” at my home in the south side of Glasgow but can also do home visits if required.
