Couldnโt have put it any better ๐๐ป if your dog lunges at people, growls at your children or poses any threat to the general public then is should be muzzle trained !
It should also be treated with severity.
2 weeks ago I asked a client โ in your opinion, do you think your dog would ever bite someone ?โ It had been lunging at people but they told me โ NOOO not a chance he would never do that !โ
I could tell within 30 seconds what the dogs intentions were and 10 minutes later the dog attempted an attack on my leg. Luckily, I could see it coming and managed to avoid injury.
An experienced trainer who has dealt with aggression isnโt cheap and if you are serious about sorting these issues then it is an investment but you have to take it seriously !!!
In the last almost 10 years I've been to so many aggressive dogs.
Most I've helped live a happier more normal life.
We can't help them all though. Some it's out with the clients budget, timescales or it's just not the best place for that particular dog.
As many will know I try my best to make allowances for budget.. occasionally doing free or reduced sessions if it means saving the dog.
It's actually quite stressful being lunged at or attacked 3-4 times per day. Particularly annoying when people don't take the aggression seriously.
What's most annoying is that sometimes I'll attend an aggressive dog and sometimes recommend another opinion. Only for the client to get a in a fairy trainer who stands behind a fence and drops hotdogs to the dog.
Then says something like -
The dog is not that bad it's just misunderstood! ๐ฏ
Probably doesn't need a muzzle just keep feeding hotdogs.
Anyone, including a kid could stand behind a fence or maintain distance and throw food but it's not an accurate assessment or training plan.
On the other hand.
Just a few weeks ago I was called to a kennel because a Behaviorist was too scared to bring two dogs out of the kennel. She classed them as dangerous and in an indirect way sentenced them to death.
If the trainer or Behaviorist has no evidence of ever helping an aggressive dog they shouldn't be near them.
It puts people and dogs at risk of injury or death.
