Top tips for the festive season 🎄
Christmas may look quite different for a lot of us this year but it’s still likely to be a day on which your normal routine changes. For some us we may be having over some family we haven’t seen in a long time. Many of us will be stocking up on the festive food and drink, much of which we only have this time of year. This means lots of new novel food items our dogs will want to get their paws on!
All of this can be challenging for our dogs, so it’s important we do everything we can to keep them happy and safe this holiday session. Here’s a few tips to help you get prepared:
🎁 Keep all Christmas food items out of reach. Many festive foods are toxic for our dogs so don’t leave any open packets or uncovered dishes on low surfaces or at the edge of counter tops. Also, be careful what you put under the tree!
🎁 Make sure your dog has a safe space to retreat to through the day that is away from everyone. For some dogs they haven’t seen many people all year so a houseful of guests could be scary. Make sure they have somewhere quiet to go should they need to.
🎁 Pre-prepare activities such as Kongs, food parcels and puzzle feeders for your dog. These will prove incredibly useful at busy times such as present opening and dinner. They’ll not only keep your dog busy but also help keep the experience positive.
🎁 If your dog does run off with one of the presents, remember to always exchange the item for something else they find fun. They are likely to place huge value on whatever they may have managed to sneak off with, so we want to make sure giving it up is worth while.
