I don't feel I need to add anything else to Lee's comments but I will confirm that I would have chocked the Frenchie off had I not had a bite break stick.

Leave it, taught the conventional way as a "trick" or "parlour game", can be useful for temporary self control.
But does not teach or encourage active disengagement. The dog is simply learning the pattern of the game, the "trick".

COMPETENCE OVER CREDENTIALS

Qualifications can be valuable.

Courses, seminars, workshops and academic study all have their place within dog training and behaviour work. Learning matters. Continued education matters.

But qualifications alone are never a guarantee of competence.

A certificate proves only one thing:
That somebody completed the course placed in front of them.

It does not automatically prove:

- practical skill,
- behavioural judgement,
- timing,
- observational ability,
- emotional control,
- coaching ability,
- or the capacity to safely guide real owners through real behavioural struggles.

Real behaviour work happens in the grey areas.

Not in carefully edited demonstrations or sanitised examples — but in everyday homes, with unique dogs, unique owners and constantly changing environments.

A practitioner may hold multiple qualifications and still struggle to:

- read subtle stress signals,
- recognise conflict,
- adjust appropriately to context,
- or communicate clearly enough for the owner to succeed once the session ends.

Equally, there are highly capable trainers whose understanding has been built through years of practical work, study, observation, mentorship and lived experience rather than through formal academic pathways alone.

At the Registry of Modern Canine Behavioural Trainers, we do not place paper above performance.

We recognise demonstrated ability.

We recognise practitioners who can:

- apply knowledge safely,
- communicate clearly,
- coach owners effectively,
- and achieve ethical, reliable outcomes in the real world.

Because ultimately, owners are not looking for framed certificates on a wall.

They are looking for:

- clarity,
- trust,
- guidance,
- results,
- and a healthier relationship with their dog.

Competence matters.
Practical understanding matters.
Accountability matters.

And that is exactly what the Registry exists to promote.
