Hot Weather & Heat Stress Policy for Clients
At Paws Truly Grooming Studio, the health and welfare of every dog in our care is our highest priority. During periods of warm weather and heatwaves, we take additional precautions to reduce the risk of heat stress and overheating.
Our Commitment
We will:
* Maintain a cool, well-ventilated grooming environment using fans and/or air conditioning where available.
* Ensure all dogs have access to fresh drinking water throughout their visit.
* Monitor dogs closely for any signs of heat stress or discomfort.
* Adjust grooming procedures, drying times, and appointment schedules when temperatures are high.
* Give extra attention to dogs that may be more vulnerable to heat, including brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds, senior dogs, puppies, overweight dogs, and dogs with existing health conditions.
What We Ask From Owners
To help keep your dog safe, please:
* Ensure your dog has access to water before arriving for their appointment.
* Inform us of any medical conditions that may affect your dog's ability to cope with heat.
* Avoid walking your dog on hot pavements or long walks before their appointment.
* Arrive promptly for drop-off and collection times.
* Never leave your dog unattended in a vehicle while attending the salon.
During Heatwaves
When temperatures become excessively high, we may:
* Offer earlier morning appointments where possible.
* Reduce or alter certain grooming services to prioritise your dog's comfort and safety.
* Reschedule appointments for vulnerable dogs if conditions are unsuitable.
* Temporarily close the salon if we believe temperatures present a risk to animal welfare.
Signs of Heat Stress
If a dog shows signs of overheating, such as excessive panting, drooling, weakness, distress, vomiting, or difficulty breathing, we will immediately implement cooling measures and seek veterinary advice if required. We will contact the owner as soon as possible.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us keep all dogs safe and comfortable during periods of hot weather.
Thanks
