While it might feel a bit fresher out there compared to the heat we had last week, temperatures can climb faster than we realise. When youโre out walking, itโs still incredibly warm work for our furry best friends who are wearing permanent fur coats!
โIf youโre heading out for an adventure today, a little bit of preparation goes a long way. Here is a quick checklist of warm-weather essentials every dog owner should pack:
โ๐ง Plenty of Fresh Water & a Travel Bowl: Never rely on puddles or public streams. Offer small, frequent drinks rather than one massive gulp.
๐ก๏ธ A Cooling Mat or Towel: Great to keep in the boot of the car or to lay out if you stop.
๐ณ A Planned Shaded Route: Stick to woodland trails or paths with plenty of canopy cover rather than wide-open, exposed fields.
๐ The 5-Second Test: Pavements absorb heat like a sponge. Touch the ground with the back of your hand for 5 seconds - if itโs too hot for you, itโs far too hot for their paws!
๐ Sunscreen for Dogs: Yes, really! If your dog has a white coat, pink skin, or thin fur on their nose and ears, they can get sunburned just like us. Make sure it's a dog-safe formula.
โWhen in doubt, skip the midday trek and stick to early morning or late evening strolls. Thereโs no shame in swapping a long walk for some indoor brain games and a nice frozen lick mat in the shade instead! ๐ง ๐ฆ
โEnjoy the weekend, stay safe, and keep those paws cool! ๐ Drop a picture of your pup enjoying the fresher weather today!
