Just like that, we have baby rats! Welcome to the world little ones 🀩

There's 7 in total, 2 boys and 5 girls. Both boys will be staying here with me to eventually join my group of boys, but 3 girls and their mum are available for reservation. I'd love to keep the girls but I'm more than busy with my original group of boys at the moment! πŸ˜…

Mum did a brilliant job and is in good health. She's been feeding them and has been getting some food in herself which is important. Fingers crossed she continues to do a great job. πŸ‘πŸ»

A funny/unfortunate rat situation! πŸ€

Recently I took on a couple of male rats to join my current group of 5 and well, one of the boys turned out to be a girl... I didn't realise this until a week later after this sneaky female had been in with 6 other males! πŸ₯²

So as you can all imagine I was rather miffed off with the fact I now have a heavily pregnant rat. To be honest I wasn't planning on keeping her, I was going to phone a local small animal rescue to take her on because I just didn't want to deal with a litter of rats at the moment. It's totally unexpected and poorly timed! But, I've stepped up and now I'm keeping hold of the female so she can comfortably have and raise her young under my care.

I'm not sure when she's due but I'd imagine it'll be within the next 5 days. Obviously I don't know how many babies will be arriving and how many males/females there will be but I'm guessing at least 6 pups. Two females are spoken for and I'll be holding back a couple of boys. So if you're potentially interested in a couple of rats, please don't hesitate to get in contact with me and we can go from there.

Babies will only be sold in pairs or trios (depending on how many are born and the s*x ratio) and I'll be questioning anyone interested like I do with the mice. This is my first time dealing with rat babies but I must admit I'm quite excited. Everything happens for a reason at the end of the day, so let's go with it!

I'll continue to keep the page updated throughout the journey. Get rats they said, it'll be fun they said.. πŸ˜‚

A couple of very nice female leopard geckos that'll be used in a breeding project here at the nook. They're not quite ready to meet the male yet but I don't doubt they'll be ready soon enough, especially at the rate Leo's seem to eat food at this age! 😬

If you provide, they will thrive! πŸͺ΄

Splash here is utilising his snake plant by both using it as a basking platform and an area to rest during the day. Splash is a particularly special dude because his spot coverage is quite unique and his markings/colouring alongside tell me there's some hidden gems in his genetics. Time will tell though, and I am eager to prove him out this season. πŸ™ŒπŸ»

After spending months getting jiggy with her partner Elijah, Celeste here is taking some well earned relaxation time. She is eating like a real pig at the moment, so fingers crossed that's an indication towards some baby tenrecs being born here shortly. What an amazing achievement that would be! 😁

I'm keeping everything crossed for a successful litter this season and I will keep the page updated for sure. 🀞🏻

With almost all of the recent litter of mice sold and off to their new homes, I thought I'd show you all my holdback girlie from the "stumpy litter". 🀩

Black is one of my favourite colours and this doe is genuinely completely black, so how could I not keep her? She's unnamed as of yet but I have a few ideas. She'll definitely be a breeder in the future being paired with another self black male to start my own unique line of mice. πŸ–€

Watch this space if you're into black mice with big ears! 😬

There are 5 does and 4 bucks. All are doing exceptionally well and growing like weeds! There are a real mix of varieties in this litter and I'm really proud of their mums for being so tentative. 🀩

All of these are available for reservation ready to go home in around 4-6 weeks. Please don't hesitate to get in contact with me if you're interested 😁

Archibalds legacy lives on! Last week the nook welcomed some 2nd generation show line mice into the world! Archi's son has done his job with a couple of my splashed girls so these little ones are going to be gorgeous! 😍

Unfortunately being first time mothers the girls did nip off the tail tips of almost all of the babies, but the pinkies wouldn't of felt a thing and they'll grow on just fine being a little more "unique".

If anyone wants to put their names down for any of these babies, please don't hesitate to message the page or comment below! 😁

Death is inevitable when you keep animals, especially rodents, and it never gets any easier when their time comes to cross the bridge. Unfortunately Archibalds time is now coming, at the ripe old age of over 2 today will almost certainly be his last. When you keep animals for as long as I have, you become really intuitive with them and just know when their time is up.

He may just be a mouse to some but to me Archibald is so much more than that. He's never put a foot wrong since I got him and has provided so many laughs. He was also a favourite with my Nan, who passed back in 2020. So Archi here holds great sentimental value to me.

I've held him for a while, gave him a cuddle and thanked him for being awesome. Now when he's ready, he'll go. These animals mean absolutely everything to me and without them I probably wouldn't be where I am today.

I have some of Archibalds legacy here in the form of his sons/daughters, and I'm really thankful for that.

Today will mark the end of an era. 😞

I'm very excited to finally have my lesser tenrecs awake and back mooching around their enclosure! They've both been deep in torpor throughout winter πŸ’€

Both have dived into a bunch of mealworms already and whilst doing so I realised my animals food bill is about to increase in order to keep these two gannets satisfied.. 😬

Therapy and comfort comes in many forms, mine is being around my animals. Seeing them make decisions to come out onto my hand, observing them just totally relaxed and content in their enclosures. It's the little things in life that I appreciate most, and makes everything so worth it.

In the photos shown below we have a hognose snake, carpet python, and a boa constrictor hybrid. 🌿

Now this is one of the main reasons why I became a hobbyist breeder for mice. Look at these adorable photos!

These are two of the does from my recent Archbald x Skylar pairing. Now named Rose and Daisy, both girls are doing really well in their new home and making firm friends with their owners. Friendly mice aren't just born, friendly mice are the product of time, effort, and patience. These girls are a credit to good breeding, and dedicated owners! 🀩

I also have some exciting news! We could finally be seeing some new babies born at the nook soon, I am doing pairings tonight! Watch this space.. 😁🀞🏻

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I now have 3 gorgeous mice looking for their forever home! 🏑

These mice are a bonded mother/daughter trio and really do thrive in eachothers company. Mum is the variegated, and one daughter is a dove satin astrex whilst the other is a chocolate astrex. Both daughters are very friendly, especially the chocolate girl who will run up to me in the enclosure. Mum is a little bit nervous, but she is a sweetheart and will come around with new owners. These really are some lovely mice, and I nearly kept them back for myself!

If you think you could offer this gorgeous trio a forever home, then please don't hesitate to get in contact with me, and we can discuss further. 😁

Mouse food! πŸ₯•

Whilst everyone has their own preferences when it comes to feeding their animals, I have always believed that variety is the spice of life, even more so for rodents! A wild RURUAL mouse will be eating a variety of different seeds, grains, vegetation, invertebrates, and occasionally other small vertebrates. So it's really important we offer them as much variety as possible.

My mice have access to a bowl full of science selective mouse/rat food at all times. These, alongside the mouse specific range, are the best of the best when it comes to a complete meal. It makes my life easier, offering them this alongside their scatter mix because I know they're getting a balanced food as and when they want it.

As for the exciting mix you see, that's a big mixture of dog food, dried insects, chopped peanuts, aviary mix, guinea pig muesli, and garden bird seed. Every time I go through one mix, I'll change it the next time around. One month may have aviary mix included and the other parrot mix, for example. I use the mixes to scatter around the enclosures each evening, and the mice go crazy for it! Foraging is one of the things mice do best, and its a brilliant way of mentally/physically stimulating them. Whilst this mix is probably balanced enough to meet the nutritional needs of a mouse, I don't rely on it. That's why I offer the complete science selective good 24/7 to ensure they are getting a balanced diet πŸ˜‰

Remember, the key to getting the most out of rodents (including their lifespan) is to ensure we are keeping them happy, healthy, and well stimulated. Bored mice are unhappy mice, and unhappy mice are unhealthy mice.. which nobody wants! Mice are only here for a short while, so let's give them the best lives we possibly can 😁

My main man Archibald is really showing his age now, at well over 2 this was due. Despite his wobbly legs and scruffy coat, he is still going on strong! I don't think anything will stop him from waiting for dinner each evening πŸ˜…

I got Archibald back in 2020. He was my first show line mouse, and I honestly couldn't have asked for a better one. He's always been a little super star in the room, and everyone who's met Arch adores him. It'll be a very sad day indeed when his time comes, I'll miss him tremendously.
