Andrew Winter Photography is a Galston-based dog & equine photographer serving Ayrshire, Glasgow, Lanarkshire & Dumfries. Calm, on-location sessions capture pets’ personalities. Bespoke wall art, albums & prints available.
Not all opportunities go to plan and so when you have half an hour in a dog field with rain on its way, you need to move fast and grab the shots you want when you can.
But dogs being dogs sometimes play up, sometimes they embarrass the owners and I have had many occasions when owners are apologising on behalf of their pets.
But that's ok. They are who they are. I love capturing their personality on the day, whatever kind of mood they are and yesterday my three dogs were into playing hide and seek and were not concerned about any time constraints that I had. Only Gemma was on my side, trying to explain what I was up to and trying to find them.
So these kind of images, you might call them outtakes, they are not what I went to take, but they are images that capture the dogs exctly as they wanted to be at that time.
Playful, doing just what they wanted, being dogs.....

A new start.....Dog and Equine Photoshoots now available.
It has been a long time since I submitted any of my work for comments and judging by anyone, but so far this year I have taken the plunge and have a number of images up for scrutiny.
I never submit client work to club or online competitions as these are private and personal to the owners I work with, but I use my personal work to learn about how to improve, so that when out with the dogs and horses I can feel confident that I am doing the best work possible. Click on the link above to see how I got on.
Comments were made about the emotional impact of this image and so if this image makes you feel anything then please let me know in the comments below, I would love to know what you see in it and whether you can see the same things as me.
There are also details in blog regarding my dog and equine shoots that I am starting up again.

Today is “National Dog Photography Day” and so as I do most days I take photo’s of our dogs. It’s hard not to take a photo as Merlin, he is often called ‘beautiful’ but hose that meet him and yes, it is possible to get a bad photo of him, but most of the time he’s the perfect model.
If you have taken a photo of your dog today I’d love to see them, post them in the comments below and fill the timelines up with dog photo’s, not all of the the nonsense that is about at the moment.

Make your house a home with bespoke photographic wall art of your dogs and horses.
Creating memories for you and and your dog or horse, all wrapped up in artwork for your wall that will be a constant reminder of your pet that you will want to treasure for a lifetime. This is all put together in a professional, fun and exciting photographic experience from initial contact to the handing over of completed work.
I can create images that capture the special bond between your pet and yourself that words cannot describe yet to see it in an image, it is instantly recognisable.
I have a keen interest in pets and animals that have been rescued or are awaiting their forever home. These are animals that have often had a particularly difficult relationship with humans and have a story to tell.
I live at home in the Surrey Hills with my partner, our dogs Gemma and Merlin, two rabbits - Honey and Peanut, a varying number of rats, 2 guinea pigs - Cocoa and Basil, some fish and the local wildlife.
All our animals are rescued, even the fish.
The Xperience Awards
Once again I am a finalist in the Xperience Awards 2019 - a National photographic competition between 100 top studios throughout the UK. The competition is judged by professional photographers and consumers, which makes it a little different to other national competitions.
