Why Rawhide Isn’t a Safe Chew for Dogs ⚠️🐶
Rawhide chews are very popular, but many dog owners don’t realise they can come with serious risks.
❌ Choking hazard – Rawhide doesn’t break down easily. Dogs often bite off large pieces that can get stuck in the throat.
❌ Digestive blockages – Swallowed pieces can swell in the stomach or intestines, potentially causing painful and dangerous blockages.
❌ Hard to digest – Rawhide is not easily digestible and can lead to vomiting, diarrhoea, or constipation.
❌ Chemical processing – Many rawhide products are heavily processed using chemicals and preservatives that aren’t clearly labelled.
There are much safer alternatives available, such as natural air-dried chews, rubber enrichment toys, or vet-approved dental chews.
A good chew should be safe, digestible, and appropriate for your dog’s size and chewing style 💚
If you’re unsure what’s best for your dog, always check with your vet.

🐾Top tip Wednesday 🐾
Mental exercise is just as important as physical exercise
A dog who only walks fast and far may still be mentally under-stimulated. Adding sniffing, exploring, and varied routes challenges their brain, which can help reduce boredom-related behaviours at home.

🐾 Top Tip Wednesday 🐾
Is your dog a healthy weight? ⚖️🐶
Keeping your dog at a healthy weight is one of the most important things you can do for their long-term health. Extra weight can put strain on joints, affect breathing, reduce stamina, and increase the risk of health issues.
👉 A simple check you can do at home:
• You should be able to feel your dog’s ribs easily (without pressing hard)
• Your dog should have a visible waist when viewed from above
• From the side, their tummy should tuck up, not hang down

If you’re unsure, your vet can help confirm what’s healthy for your dog’s breed, age, and size.
Regular, balanced walks combined with appropriate feeding help maintain a healthy weight — leading to more energy, easier movement, and a happier dog 💚

🐾 Top Tip Wednesday 🐾

A calm walk starts before you leave the house 🏡🐕

If your dog is overly excited before a walk, that energy usually carries onto the lead. Take a moment to pause, ask for calm behaviour, and wait until your dog settles before heading out. Starting the walk calmly helps reduce pulling, improves focus, and sets the tone for a more enjoyable walk.
