Most people only see the indication…

Handlers learn to see the change of behaviour.

The real magic happens in the moments before the find — the tiny changes in movement, breathing, posture and behaviour as the dog processes odour.

From bracketing and direction changes to breathing patterns, tail carriage and slowing into odour… dogs are constantly communicating information to us during a search.

Learning to spot these subtle changes helps handlers better understand how their dog works scent and builds stronger teamwork between dog and handler.

Watching dogs work odour is fascinating — a whole world of scent we will never truly understand as humans.

🛍️ Passive Screening Workshop
Perfect for dogs working towards UK Sniffer Dog or those wanting to progress their people-search skills.

🐽 Scent Detection Workshops
Open to all levels. Dogs work one at a time, allowing for tailored coaching and focused learning.

☕ Scent & Social Sessions
A relaxed, enrichment-based session combining scent work, body awareness and brain games.
(Dogs must be comfortable around people and other dogs)

👣 Tracking
Dogs must be comfortable working around other dogs and people in a group training environment. This course is suitable for teams working towards the UK Sniffer Dogs Bronze Tracking Award 🥉

Scent & Social 🐾☕️

The best way to spend a Friday evening.. doing exactly what Scent & Social is all about — spending quality time with our dogs whilst connecting with other like-minded people in a relaxed environment.

The evening included tea, coffee, cakes and, of course, plenty of training. Dogs had the opportunity to develop new skills through trick training, body awareness exercises and scent work activities.

These exercises are about far more than simply teaching tricks. They help dogs to:

✨ Build engagement around distractions
✨ Develop confidence through problem solving
✨ Strengthen their relationship with their handler
✨ Improve focus, optimism and independence

Creating well-rounded, confident dogs whilst having fun together is at the heart of these evenings.

Thank you to everyone who attended and made it such an enjoyable night. Scent & Social is a monthly event, with dates now available through to August.

Congratulations to the first Introduction to Scent Work course graduates at Wizz Dog Training Centre 🎓

Over the past six weeks it has been lovely watching these teams grow in confidence, develop their skills and find their spark for scent work.

Throughout the course we focused on building strong foundations — from motivation and indication work, to introducing target odour and building confidence within the search itself.

Foundations are so important in scent work. They help give our dogs clarity, confidence and set them up for success as they continue their journey.

Workshops designed to challenge both ends of the lead....

Our morning scent detection workshop focused on developing key skills, from distance handling and search strategies to building clear, confident indication work. Teams worked through a variety of training scenarios designed to improve both handler mechanics and the dog’s understanding of the task.

The afternoon passive screening workshop certainly put the dogs to the test. Passive screening is challenging work — requiring dogs to search methodically whilst working through distractions, environmental pressure, and maintaining focus and accuracy throughout the search.

Workshops are a great opportunity to fine tune skills in a smaller setting. Dogs work one at a time, allowing sessions to be tailored to each individual team and their training goals.
