Did you know?

Same-sex behavior, coupling, and parenting have been documented in over 1,500 species across the animal kingdom. Far from being an anomaly, these behaviors range from casual flings and pair-bonding to raising young as same-sex parents.

The most famous is probably penguins. Famous for being deeply monogamous and loyal, many penguin species have same-sex pairings. Two males or two females often court, build nests, and co-parent by stealing or adopting abandoned eggs. Famous cases include Roy and Silo at the Central Park Zoo, and Elmer and Lima at the Syracuse Zoo, who successfully raised chicks together.

But did you know some of the other animals include lions, giraffes, elephants, albatrosses, dolphins, warthogs and so many more! In fact a quarter of all black swan pairings are actually two males!

Forever grateful that my job is also my passion…
My name’s Laura and I’ve never actually introduced myself!

I am 37 and started up Our Animal World in March 2022. I’m an ex teacher who was always driven by a love of animals and nature and wanted to educate others not only on the amazing animals on our planet, but about their plight and also to help improve animal welfare for pets too.

Over time I realised the incredible healing power of animals and became an animal assisted therapist as well, helping both 1 to 1 and group clients of all ages from special needs, to PTSD, depression, dementia, addiction amongst others.

The company has grown from strength to strength with more and more nurseries, schools, colleges, universities, museums, care homes, kids clubs, holiday camps and events coming back to us year after year!

We have done some amazing events and been to some incredible places- i must admit it’s hard to beat Christchurch mansion for its beauty
and for their incredible stage set up just for us including a huge LED screen and our own lighting set up!

In just 4 years we have done over 600 events and we loved every last one 😍

Meeting so many people, hearing that many have seen us at the Suffolk show, , Christchurch Mansion, Framlingham Country Show just to name a few! I am unbelievably proud to be able to do what I do- it was my dream for many years before I was able to put it into action with the incredible support of my Mum who has been my rock through all of it…

Tortoises are thought of as being rather slow, leisurely animals- but no one told Tilly!!

They can actually move rather speedily if they want or need to! The fastest recorded tortoise was a leopard tortoise called Bertie who covered 18ft in 19.59seconds! (Aka 0.63mph) whilst this is not very fast in comparison to most animals, it’s much faster than most expect from a tortoise!!
