Well, 2018 was a busy year. We now have added shelters to all our summer fields to keep off those pesky flies and provide shade from our Costa Del Moray summer heats. The yard is looking fab, with shelters in 9 of the 10 pastures, running water to all of them and hard standing around all the sheds and gates. Last winter we were barely aware of any mud whatsoever. It's really wonderful for everything to be so tidy, clean and functional now and I am loving having a nice, dry haystore!

We also started grazing our "big" pasture this summer and I am wondering why on earth we haven't done that every year.

The summer pastures are laid up for the winter now, but the boys (2) are out on about 8 acres, the girls (3) on about 5 acres, the ponies (2) in a smaller field as they really are not needing any more to eat, and Shandy all on her tod on about 2.5 acres. She might get her little Shetland friend back soon but she really does like her own company.

We had a new addition in July, the lovely Dante who came up from Lincolnshire. He's an absolute love and Kip now has another boy to hang out with. He does remind me why I will never personally own a grey. Asha moved back in with Rosie and the two of them are inseparable.

So, last weekend, while all around us was enjoying the white stuff (and all the issues it brings along with the beauty), we were basking in sunshine with green fields, everyone naked (apart from me!) and lovely mild temperatures. I swear we have the best weather. There's just a little pocket here that means we seem to avoid the worst of any weather.

All the best to everyone for 2019.

After 2 years with us, the lovely Symphony left yesterday to start the next chapter in her life. We were really sad to see her go but delighted that she will be back close to her owner, who will now have the chance again to share all the special moments with her. We hope to see lots of photos of her with her new horse pals. In the meantime Rosie, her pasture mate, has the pleasure of Lori (our wee Shetland) as her buddy.

Major works underway here at Muirside Farm. Massive improvements to all our fields putting hard standing around all the gates and troughs, creating feeding pens in some of the fields, and adding field shelters into the summer fields. SO excited!! Photos to follow.......

For the 1st time in a very long time, we will have a space coming available at the end of the month. 2.5 acre paddock with a large field shelter, yard owners live on-site and horses checked multiple times a day and in the evening. Mare or gelding can be accommodated. Full references can be provided and all visits are welcome.

On nights like this I think I have the best job ever. Our yard is truly beautiful and the all the horses are just lovely. To be able to walk out on a mild evening as it's getting dark and the bats are flying around and to hear nothing but the breeze in the trees and a couple of birds singing their evening songs. Everything is so serene and tranquil. Walking down to the pastures I am met by happy, calm horses whinnying to me (OK, lets not kid ourselves, they are just chancing their legs that I'll bring out another set of dinners!). But seriously, on evenings like this I feel truly privileged that people have entrusted me with the care of their horses. Every horse here is lovely. Every horse here is wonderfully behaved, calm and extremely personable. I am very happy with my lot in life.

Lovely aerial photo of the farm. It really reflects how wonderfully tranquil it is here for all our lovely retirees. We are the farm in the trees in the centre, left. Holidays with your horses available both at the farmhouse and also, if you look up the road to the bigger patch of trees, there is a gorgeous little white cottage with a red roof, that we now also have available for holidays, with or without your horses.

Happy New Year! (a few days late).

I am told that the days are starting to get longer, although I'll have to take that based on the facts rather than how it still feels. Bedtime checks with a head torch are getting a little old.

We've had a superb winter so far with no snow and apart from about 6 nights, virtually no sub-zero temperatures. All the horses have had naked days for the last week or so basking in the winter sunshine, while the media is filled with stories of the dreadful freezes across Europe and down South. The pastures still look amazingly green and although there is free-choice hay in all the fields the ponies are spending considerable amounts of the day grazing as opposed to being glued to the bales!

I have a horrible feeling that I will write this smug-sounding post and winter will arrive with a vengeance. Hopefully not.

It's been a busy summer here at Muirside. Mowing fields and sorting fences. We had a little herd of 3 horses belonging to the same person come to stay in June and in July another lovely mare to add to the happy family.
Finally bought a quad and tipping trailer to help with the poo picking and amazingly poo picking has suddenly become attractive to my daughter, who previously had to be dragged kicking and screaming to do anything around the farm :-) Fencing of 2 new fields starts tomorrow and new field shelters are on order, to be delivered in late October. We have one space left now for the winter and then after that we will be on a waiting list basis. Our aim is quality, not quantity and to provide the personal service and care for the horses here we have to keep the herd size small. A few recent photos of the gang.
