Evie, a 5 year old inquisitive Sprocker got herself into a spot of bother recently when snuffling around in the new forest undergrowth.
Evie came across an adder and was unfortunate enough to get bitten on her face. Luckily the owners were close by and got her to us very quickly just as the swelling had started.
Evie was already very subdued and in a lot of pain, she was admitted into our hospital and closely monitored as the swelling worsened. She received intravenous fluid therapy, a lot of pain relief, intravenous antihistamines and viper anti venom. Thankfully for Evie, the quick response from her owner and thanks to the treatment she received with us at Pilgrims, she was already feeling a lot better by the end of the day, despite having an impressive amount of swelling and a very fat lip.
We are pleased to report that Evie has made a full recovery, and hopefully thinks twice before picking a fight with an adder next time!
