🍅✨ : Sungold ✨🍅

Say hello to one of the sweetest tomatoes you’ll ever grow – Sungold! These golden-orange cherry tomatoes are a garden favourite for good reason. Bursting with intense, tropical sweetness and a hint of citrus, they’re like nature’s candy—perfect for snacking straight off the vine. 🍬🌞

👉 Why we love Sungold:

Incredibly sweet & fruity flavour

Early ripening & super productive

Grows beautifully in pots, greenhouses or garden beds

A hit with kids and tomato skeptics alike!

Tip: Harvest them just as they turn deep orange for the best flavour punch. Too ripe and they can split, but picked at the right moment—chef’s kiss! 👌

Have you tried Sungold yet? Drop a 🍊 if it's your favourite too!

If you want to grow amazing varieties like this? Get signed up to our amazing seed subscription boxes using code INSTA50 for your first month half price. August boxes go out soon so don't delay!

- Winter Squash Bush Baby

Think you need a massive garden to grow squash? Think again! Bush Baby winter squash is the perfect compact variety for container gardening — ideal for patios, balconies, or small spaces. 🪴✨

🌱 Why Bush Baby?

Compact bush habit – no sprawling vines!

Produces small, tender, striped squash with sweet, nutty flesh

Perfect for roasting, stuffing, or soups

🪴 Container Growing Tips:
✔️ Pot size: Use a large container — at least 40cm wide and deep
✔️ Soil: Fill with rich, well-draining compost
✔️ Sun: Place in a sunny spot — 6+ hours of sun daily
✔️ Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy
✔️ Feed: Use a tomato feed every 10–14 days once fruit starts forming

🌼 Encourage pollination by hand if bees are scarce — simply dab a male flower's pollen onto the female bloom (the one with the baby fruit beneath).

🍂 Harvest when the skin is firm and the stalk turns corky. Cure for a week indoors before storing.

You’ll love how productive and beautiful these little squashes are — and how well they grow right outside your door! 🌿🧡

Got sent this by my mother in law 😍

For context I regularly throw various seeds and plants at her to grow in her garden as otherwise half of our own produce gets stolen 😂

She's one upped me this time though! I just lay my garlic out to dry, she's only gone and plaited hers! I'm very impressed and will have to try harder next year 😂

Leaving excess veggies on your doorstep for neighbours to help themselves 💚

We live in a great neighborhood where we all share what we don't need, from excess home grown veg, kids toys to household items. Not a lot goes to waste in a close community.

- summer squash aka Patty pan

I can't even remember when we sent these out?

That's the beauty of our subscription boxes, sometimes you'll have seeds left from previous seasons which will still be perfectly viable and if you liked them before you can grow them again 💚

🌱 GROWING PATTY PAN SQUASH 🌼

Patty pan squash — also known as scallop squash — is a quirky, saucer-shaped summer squash that’s as tasty as it is eye-catching! Here's how to grow it like a pro:

🔆 SUN & SOIL
Patty pans love the sun! Plant in full sun and rich, well-draining soil. Add compost or organic matter for a nutrient boost.

🌱 SOWING
Sow seeds outdoors after the last frost, or start indoors 3–4 weeks early. Space plants 24–36 inches apart — they need room to sprawl!

💧 WATERING
Keep the soil evenly moist, especially while fruits are forming. Water at the base to avoid mildew on leaves.

🌼 HARVESTING
Pick when fruits are 2–4 inches wide for the best flavour and tenderness. The more you harvest, the more you get! Turn your back for 5 minutes and they'll be huge!

🐝 BONUS TIP
Attract bees with companion flowers like nasturtiums or marigolds to boost pollination.

✨ These little beauties are perfect grilled, stuffed, or roasted.

A little bit of jam making recently.

Vegetables aside for a minute, we try to grow as many soft fruits in our garden as we can. A half decent haul of blackcurrants resulted in three jars of jam made this weekend just gone.

- Gherkin National

A few days away camping and we've come back to an abundance of gherkins! Time to get pickling!

There's a great recipe on our website, I'll also paste it below but feel free to head over to seedcraft.co.uk and click the articles tab for a more user friendly version.

Ingredients:

500G Gherkins
1Tbsp Fine Sea Salt
400ml White Vinegar
400ml Water
1Tbsp Pickling Spice
Fresh Dill (I use one sprig per jam jar)

Method:

Wash your gherkins, if using whole trim both ends, I like to slice ours so let them grow a little longer if you want them to go further.

Place your gherkins in a clean bowl and sprinkle with the salt, cover and allow them to stand until the salt has liquidized (I do this the night before)

When you are ready to go, get the jars in your oven to sterilse, meanwhile bring the Vinegar and Water to the boil, once boiling, turn down the heat and add your pickling spice. Turn off the heat and allow to cool slightly whilst you complete the next part.

Boil a kettle full of water to rise your gherkins before packing them in to your jar/s along with your sprigs of Dill.

Finally carefully fill your jars with the spiced vinegar until the gherkins are fully covered and seal. Allow at least 48 hours before consuming but for best results and flavour leave for approximately 2 - 3 weeks before opening.

Garlic 🧄

Harvested our garlic yesterday and it is looking like a good crop.

After harvesting garlic, what you do next is crucial for proper storage, flavor, and longevity. Here's a simple step-by-step guide:

🧄 1. Cure the Garlic

Purpose: Drying the garlic properly enhances flavor and allows long-term storage.

Do not wash the bulbs.

Leave roots and stalks attached.

Hang in bunches or lay flat in a single layer in a dry, airy, shaded place (e.g., shed, garage, or porch).

Time: Let them cure for 2–4 weeks until the outer skins are papery and the necks are dry.

✂️ 2. Trim and Clean

Once cured:

Cut stalks about 1 inch above the bulb (or braid them if using softneck varieties).

Trim roots close to the bulb.

Gently brush off excess dirt (avoid peeling too many outer layers).

🧺 3. Store Properly

Goal: Keep it dry and cool to avoid rot or sprouting.

Ideal temp: 10–15°C (50–60°F).

Humidity: Low; good air circulation is essential.

Store in mesh bags, baskets, or paper bags—never in plastic.

Keep away from sunlight and high humidity (like kitchens or fridges).

🌱 Bonus: Save Some for Replanting

Set aside the biggest and healthiest bulbs for planting in autumn (especially for hardneck varieties)

Or get signed up to our seed subscription boxes and you'll receive garlic later in the year at the right time to sow.
