RSPCA Fylde Branch

RSPCA Fylde Branch Non profit charity supporting animals. Local charity covering Fylde area of Lancashire. We raise our own funds to assist animals locally.

We are a branch of the RSPCA raising money locally to support our local animal welfare work. We do not have an animal centre but we still often have animals in foster looking for homes, if your interested keep your eye on the page for details! Our branch is run by a committee of locally elected volunteers who are responsible for the management and administration of the branch's affairs.

Let’s talk neutering.

With so many adult cats and unwanted litters of kittens awaiting space to come into rescue we thought we would highlight how important it is to have your cats neutered.
Not only will it help reduce the amount of accidental litters but it is much better for your cat’s health and wellbeing.
They will have less desire to roam and fight, thus less likely to come home needing vet visits or even worse not returning home at all.
We know some families may be struggling with this and so we have set aside a small budget to help the families most in need within our branch area of Fleetwood, Thornton-Cleveleys, Poulton, lytham, st Anne’s and Ansdell that are genuinely struggling.
If this is you please inbox us now.
Please note: once accepted you will be required to transport your cat to our vets for more than one appointment.

Today is black cat appreciation day 2025

We love the black cats here at the branch but quite frequently are stunned how they can be overlooked just because of their colour!

Why are black cats less likely to be adopted?

Well, your guess is as good as ours!

We know that black cats are less likely to find a home than coloured cats and yet we find that their charisma can sometimes far outweigh that of the coloured variety of cat.
Ok sometimes it’s harder to take a picture of them but would we like to be disregarded because our profile picture wasn’t one of our best? πŸ€ͺπŸ“Έ

Did you know? 🀨

Connections between cats and humans can be traced back to ancient Egypt where cats were considered divine creatures.

Once upon a time, cats were worshipped as the chosen form of the gods.
They were even spoiled by priestesses! And that wasn’t limited to colour!

Although they deserve to be appreciated every day, we’d love to know how you’re celebrating the beautiful black cats in your life – whether it’s black cat appreciation day or not!
Please share the positive stories of your magnificent midnight moggies with us and consider giving a home to the lovely black cats we have here at the branch like 3 year old Willow, 3 year old Carter, one year old Mole, 5 year old Lui and Lola and 9 week old Gino ❀️🐾

The beautiful Carter is ready for his new home! 🏠
At approximately 3 years old this lovely young lad is finding the Cattery very boring 😴
He just wants a nice family of his own like all the other cats he’s seen leaving recently 😒

He adores human company and loves play time.
He’s also a bit of a foodie - he loves his treats so much that he’ll try to take the whole packet if you’re not quick enough!
Carter has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV+), which means he will need to be the only cat in the home and live indoors to keep him safe and prevent transmission to other cats.
He would love a spacious environment, such as a house or a large flat and access to a secure outdoor space like a Catio or a garden enclosed with secure cat proofing would be an added bonus, perfect for sunbathing and keeping him mentally stimulated!
Carter has also recently had a full dental.
Regular vet check-ups will help keep him in top health (you can read more here: https://icatcare.org/articles/feline-immunodeficiency-virus-fiv).
Carter will make a wonderful companion for the right family.
He can live with older children.
If you’re looking for a beautiful, entertaining, and food-motivated feline friend, Carter could be the perfect match!
If you think you are his perfect match please complete an application form here:

KITTEN FOOD.

At present we are full to capacity with the majority of our lovely residents being nursing mums and litters of kittens.
Because of this we are going through Whiskas kitten meat, Sheba kitten meat and specialised kitten food for the more sensitive mums and kittens at a rapid rate.
We are desperately in need of donations.

Can you help?

Do you have any spare you are willing to donate?

Or could you send some from our Amazon wish list?

Today we were fundraising at Lytham dog festival and despite the awful weather at the start of the day we managed to raise a fantastic Β£246.56!
Thank you to everyone that came down and supported us by joining in our tombola, lucky dip and also purchasing our homemade peamutt butter cookies 😻
As a fully self funded branch of the RSPCA we would not be able to continue without successful fundraising events like this and so we are very grateful to the organisers for inviting us to attend and also our amazing volunteers for helping run the stall ❀️🐾

Blackie is surprised by the amount of hair loss he has but we aren’t!
We spend a lot of time grooming the cats here at the Cattery but do you know why? πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

Grooming a cat is important for their overall health and well-being, not just for aesthetics. It helps to remove loose hairs, prevent matting, and allows you to check for any skin issues or lumps that might need veterinary attention. Regular grooming also strengthens the bond between you and your cat.
Here's why grooming is important:
Health Benefits:
Reduces hairballs:
Cats groom themselves by licking their fur, and regular brushing helps remove loose hairs, reducing the amount they swallow and the likelihood of hairballs.
Prevents matting:
Mats can trap dirt and moisture, leading to skin irritation and even infections. Grooming helps prevent mats from forming, especially in long-haired cats.
Skin and coat health:
Brushing distributes natural oils, keeping the coat shiny and healthy. It also allows you to spot any skin problems like fleas, ticks, or wounds.

Early detection of health issues:
Grooming provides an opportunity to check for lumps, bumps, or other abnormalities that might indicate a health problem.
Bonding and Mental Well-being:

Social interaction:
Grooming provides physical contact and can be a positive bonding experience for both you and your cat.

Reduces anxiety:
Some cats find grooming calming and relaxing, especially if it's done gently and positively.

Mental stimulation:
Grooming can be a fun and engaging activity for your cat, especially if they enjoy the process.

Long-haired cats may need daily grooming, while short-haired cats may only need it a few times a week.
Make grooming a positive experience by offering treats and praise.
Professional grooming:
If your cat has severe matting or is difficult to groom, consider professional grooming services.

No dog ever died from missing one walk🚨

If the pavement is too hot for your hand for five seconds, it's definitely too hot for paws. During the heatwave, stick to walks at dusk and dawn to avoid burnt paw pads and heatstroke, and if in doubt, don't go out.

Please share this vital reminder to help protect four (and three!)-legged friends in hot weather.
