Remember ๐ญ
When adopting a cat the 3-3-3 rule applies and with some, especially rescue cats it can take even longer.
Be patient โบ๏ธ Allow them to settle in their own time ๐ฅฐ
Key Aspects of the 3-3-3 Rule:
First 3 Days (Decompression):
The cat is overwhelmed, scared, and stressed. They may hide, not eat, or not use the litter box, which is normal.
Tip: Keep them in one small, quiet room to start.
Somewhere cosy where they have everything they need (wet food, dry food, water, a nice cosy bed, pet calming diffuser and a litter tray)
Make sure the room is secure and the cat canโt hide in hard to reach places.
First 3 Weeks (Adjustment):
The cat starts settling in and learning the household routine. They may venture out, show curiosity, and display their true personality.
Tip: Set up their permanent litter box and food spots; stick to a consistent feeding routine (routine helps)
First 3 Months (Building Trust):
The cat feels secure and truly "home". They have likely built a solid bond with their new family and have fully adjusted to the environment.
Not quite there at the 3 month marker? Like us they are all different and may take a little longer.. look at how far they have progressed so far not where you would like them to beโฆ they will get there in time โค๏ธ๐๐๐โโฌ
