Happy National Dog Day to the absolute centre of my world, Ralph. 🐾❤️
They say you only get one "dog of a lifetime", and that is Ralph. Watching him approach 9.5 years old is quiet, bittersweet reminder of just how fast time slips away, and if I had only one wish in this life, it would be to gift him eternal life, as it will always be him.
He still has so much left to give and so much wisdom to impart, which is why it feels like the right time for him to step into a new role: mentor to a new family member. From the 20th of September, Ralph is officially becoming the coolest, wisest uncle to ‘Nancy’.
Anyone who knows me knows I’ve never been a fan of small dog, and even less so for the endless yapping that usually comes with them (a generalisation but a fair one!). However. I’ve always held a soft spot for Border Terriers, so here we are!
This next chapter isn’t about replacing a single moment of what Ralph and I share (that bond is entirely unbreakable), it is about letting Ralph pass down everything he’s taught me to the next generation.
So here’s to National Dog Day, to my legendary Ralph, and to the little girl about to learn from the very best.
Training may never be the same again!
