Today is Dunrunnin's 12 year anniversary!

On 1st September 2013, Dunrunnin opened and 12 years on, we can't believe the progress that we have made.

Going from nobody knowing about Dunrunnin 12 years ago, to reflect on the community we have built and the fantastic team of volunteers and supporters we have is is truly touching.

But of course, it is all about the dogs! The numbers from this week say we have rehomed 1140 dogs to date.
The dogs are at the heart of everything we do and we plan to keep it that way!

This post serves as a big thank you to everyone who has helped us along the way in the past 12 years, we truly couldn't have found so many dogs their perfect homes without you ❤️

Yesterday kennel dogs Paddy and Cricket had a night out at the races to join Ian Barclay and his awareness stall, with both ending up potentially reserved, well done kids! Thanks to Rudy and Bowie for also showing the racegoers what a fantastic breed greyhounds are!

What a fantastic couple of weeks it’s been, we have seen 8 dogs have their dreams come true and go off to start their new lives in their forever homes, including our longest resident Whitney (one and a half years waiting), Riz (waiting 9 months) and Oak (waiting 7 months). Long may this pattern continue! 🏡♥️

As you may have seen, we have sadly had to cancel our Fun Dog Show on Sunday, one of our main fundraisers of the year, due to high temperatures. However, there are several other ways you can support the hounds, for which we are always incredibly grateful 🥰, as follows:
RAFFLE 🎟️ - we have some fantastic prizes, including top prizes detailed below and many more. Tickets are £1 each, or 3 strips (15 tickets) for £10, and are available at the kennels, or if you can’t make it up to see us, please message me and I can sort out payment and allocate tickets to you. Winners to be announced on Tuesday 1st July.
NEW ASH GREEN VILLAGE DAY 🎡 - this is on Saturday 28th June (hopefully a cooler day) and Fiona will have our Dunrunnin stall with plants, books, dog toys etc., plus a host of other stalls and refreshments. Fiona would love to see our supporters there, details in the link https://www.nagsocial.co.uk/events-1/village-day-2025
AMAZON WISHLIST 🦴 - if you’d like to spoil the dogs there are plenty of treats to choose from right here, delivered direct to the kennels https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/W7HJDMV11321/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_2
WOODEN GIFTS FOR SALE 🪵 - we have a selection of beautiful handmade wooden gifts available for collection from the kennels, photos/details below.

🐾 DOG SHOW CANCELLATION 🐾
We have sadly had to take the decision to cancel our Dog Show on Sunday 29th June due to the high temperatures forecast for that day. We cannot in good conscience ask people to bring their dogs out to stand around in that heat with very little shade. To our supporters who had offered to sponsor classes, we are asking if you would be happy to carry over your sponsorship to the Christmas Fayre, if not please let me know and I can return your money if you have already paid. There will be another post shortly regarding the raffle. We’re so sorry we won’t get to see you all, and hope you manage to stay cool during the hot days ahead! 😎🥰

One of our lovely volunteers took kennel girl Plonk home for a little break - here’s what she had to say:

“Plonk came to stay for a couple of nights this weekend - what an amazing lovely girly she is⭐!

She travelled well in the car, even jumping in on her own with minimal encouragement. She was completely clean in the house day and night. We went on a walk around Mote park and she walked beautifully on her lead, staying next to us the whole time and meeting dogs of all shapes and sizes with perfect manners. She slept downstairs at night in her bed with no problems, greeting us in the morning with skippy toes and waggy tail. She settled brilliantly in her bed through the day too and wasn't pushy when we sat to have our dinner. She is such a sweet lovable girl who will take all the ear scratches and cuddles you're willing or give her. She was amazing with the kids, watching them play and not getting excited, going for a walk round the block with their bikes. Thunderstorm on the weekend . . . Not a problem at all for this girl, she even went on her night time wee walk in the rain!

I would have loved it if we could have been her forever family but unfortunately her only vice was she was far too keen on getting hold of our cat. She totally deserves a family and sofa of her own and will slot into just about any home . . . . Just one without a cat🤭!”

We have two very special boys for you to meet - Chas and Connel. They are both 5 years old, big, strong boys, who are so deserving of their own homes.
Chas is a beautiful blue boy with striking amber eyes, he has lived in a home before so is housetrained but has currently been back with us for 14 months. Chas can be reactive to other breeds so needs to be muzzled on his walks, however, he has been on trips to the local country park and behaved well. He has lovely manners in the kennels and is affectionate and loves a fuss from his human carers. Chas will do well as an only dog with a confident owner who is physically able to walk him as he is a strong lad, although by no means a puller. Chas could live with older children.
Connel is a handsome black boy who loves everyone he meets and is super affectionate. Whilst not blessed with a huge amount of stamina (hikers need not apply! 😂), he does enjoy his walks and is calm and uninterested around other breeds. Like Chas, Connel has also lived in a home, however in his case he lived with two other dogs and started to become somewhat dominant with them after a while, so was returned to us. Therefore he would need to be the only dog in the home. He can also be a little stubborn at times so will need boundaries set, but other than that we think he’s pretty much perfect for everyone.
Both Chas and Connel are huge favourites with all of our volunteer walkers, which is a great recommendation as to what a pleasure they are to walk. If you think you can offer Chas or Connel a soft bed and a loving home, please get in touch and come up and see for yourself what beauties they really are.
