Reposting my mum’s account of her dog being attacked.

Thankfully, George is okay, but I wanted to share her thoughtful, measured and incredibly courageous message.

It’s easy to react in anger after something like this, but she’s chosen to use her experience to raise awareness instead. If sharing her story helps even one person recognise the signs, take precautions, or prevent another dog from going through the same ordeal, then it’s worth it.

Once a veterinary nurse, always a veterinary nurse 💚 🐾

As Veterinary Nurses Awareness Month comes to a close, I’ve found myself reflecting on what it truly means to be a veterinary nurse.

This profession is so much more than a job. It is a privilege to care for animals during some of their most vulnerable moments and to support the people who love them through both the highs and the lows. Every day brings something different - moments of joy, moments of challenge, but always opportunities to make a difference, no matter how big or small.

Being a veterinary nurse has shaped me in countless ways. It has taught me resilience when faced with difficult cases, compassion when families need support, and the importance of advocating for those who cannot speak for themselves. It is a role that demands both technical skill and emotional strength, often requiring us to give so much of ourselves while remaining a source of comfort and reassurance for others.

Throughout this month, we have celebrated the profession and highlighted the incredible contribution veterinary nurses make to animal welfare. Yet the dedication shown by veterinary nurses extends far beyond a single month of recognition. Day after day, veterinary nurses work tirelessly to provide exceptional patient care, support their colleagues, and help families navigate some of the most emotional moments of pet ownership.

The values I learned as a veterinary nurse continue to influence everything I do today. They are the reason I feel so strongly about advocating for the highest standards of care and why animal welfare remains at the heart of my grooming salon. Every pet deserves to be treated with patience, kindness, understanding, and respect, and those principles will always be at the centre of the care we provide.

To my fellow veterinary nurses, thank you for the care you provide, the knowledge you share, and the kindness you show, even on the most challenging days. Your commitment to your patients and your profession never goes unnoticed, and I am incredibly proud to be part of such a compassionate and dedicated community.

Although we have air con, grooming can still be quite tiring for dogs.

Please be mindful about exercising them directly before or after their appointment. Ideally walks should be first or last thing while the weather is warm, or skipped altogether on grooming days if possible.

This is especially important for older dogs, puppies, flat-faced breeds, and any dogs with underlying health conditions.

A little reflection as we come up to our 6th year 🤍

Now that I’m not in the salon every day, when I am in, it feels even more special. Seeing our day one clients and doggies, chatting to those who’ve only known Tia and finally popping a face to name, and welcoming brand new wiggly tails that now see Millie.

To be completely honest, I’ve been nervous about opening our books again. Over the years we’ve created such a unique, caring little family here, and we genuinely adore your dogs, and all the chats that come with them, from life’s highs to lows.

Not being in the salon as much has made me double down on the standards and, most importantly, the values we want to keep as we’ve grown a little. Of course, we’re human and always learning, but with good communication, understanding and mutual respect, so much can be worked through.

At the same time, we also understand we can’t be everything for everyone…and that’s okay. Sometimes dogs don’t suit a salon environment, sometimes personalities or schedules don’t align, or our approach may not be the right fit for someone. What matters most to us is that every owner feels happy, comfortable and confident leaving their dogs in our care.

Trust me when I say we give this our everything 🐾

Why we’re strict with grooming schedules 🐾

Because your dog’s welfare comes first…always.

We have a one shave-off rule.

We understand, we educate, but we don’t allow repeated matting.

Matted coats are painful. They pull on the skin, restrict movement, and turn grooming into a negative, stressful experience. Over time, dogs begin to fear it, and we won’t be part of that.

Sometimes a shave-off isn’t a choice, it’s the kindest reset. After that, we work with you to keep your dog comfortable and mat-free.

This is not an exhaustive list but here are some breed specific guidance 👇

✨ Wool / high-maintenance coats (Poodles, Doodles, Bichon Frisé, Shih Tzus, Yorkshire Terriers)

→ Home care: Daily or every-other-day brushing (not just the surface)
→ Salon: Every 2–6 weeks (or up to 8 depending on style)

✨ Spaniels (Cocker, Springer, etc.)

→ Home care: get in touch as varies hugely
→ Salon: 6-12 weeks depending on breed, coat, and lifestyle

✨ Double coats (Golden Retrievers, Huskies, German Shepherds)

→ Home care: Brush 2 times a week
→ Salon: Every 6–12 weeks to manage shedding and coat health

✨ Wire-haired coats (Schnauzer, Wire Fox Terrier, Scottish Terrier)
→ Weekly brushing + 4–16 week grooming/hand-stripping schedule

✨ Short/smooth coats (Labrador, Beagle, Boxer, Pug)
→ Weekly brushing + bath every 6–10 weeks

💡 Essentials for every dog:
• Nail trims every 4–6 weeks
• Ear cleaning at each groom
• Watch for signs: matting, odour, oily coat, excessive scratching

Regular grooming isn’t about vanity. It prevents pain, protects the coat, and keeps your dog happy with the process.

We’ll always guide you on what your dog needs…even if it’s not always what you want to hear. We know every owner and dog is different. So if we’re not the right fit, we’re always happy to point you in the direction of another groomer.

A wise word from Dolcie about Easter 🐣

🌷Easter is a beautiful time of year…but it can come with hidden dangers for our dogs 🐶

As much as we love the celebrations, many common Easter items can be harmful to pets:

🍫 Chocolate & sweets – even small amounts can be toxic, especially dark chocolate. Sugar-free treats may contain xylitol, which is extremely dangerous.

🌸 Spring flowers – lilies, daffodils, and tulips can all cause illness if chewed or eaten.

🎁 Decorations & packaging – foil wrappers, plastic eggs, and basket grass can lead to choking or serious blockages.

🍖 Rich foods & leftovers – cooked bones can splinter, and fatty foods can trigger pancreatitis.

🥚 Egg hunts – dogs can sniff out hidden treats (even spoiled ones!) and accidentally swallow packaging.

✨ Simple ways to keep your dog safe:

• Keep all chocolate and sweets well out of reach
• Choose pet-safe plants or keep flowers elevated
• Supervise egg hunts and clear leftovers quickly
• Stick to dog-friendly treats
• Make sure bins and packaging are secured

Easter should be fun for the whole family, including our furry 4 legged ones 💛 A little awareness goes a long way in keeping tails wagging and emergencies avoided.

A little change so nothing else has to 🧡

From April 2026, our prices will increasing by 10%.

I’ve kept my prices the same for almost two years now, doing my very best to absorb rising costs quietly behind the scenes. It has always been so important to me to keep things fair and accessible while still giving every dog the time, patience and love they deserve.

However, with continued increases in products, equipment maintenance, utilities, insurance and wider business costs, particularly this coming April, I’m no longer able to hold prices where they are without compromising on the standards I care so deeply about.

Every groom here is intentionally unhurried. We don’t overbook, and we don’t rush your dogs. They’re are treated like our own - gently, with care and respect, in a calm and safe environment. This increase simply allows us to continue working in that way to maintain quality products, investing in my equipment and staff training, and keeping the space as comfortable and safe as possible for them

I truly never take for granted the trust you place in me when you leave your dogs in our care. Your support, loyalty and kindness over the years mean more than I can say.

🤍 A Little Bit of Lovely News 🤍

Our grooming nurse family is growing, and we’re so happy to be welcoming a new team member from March 🐶✨

Millie will be working part-time alongside our wonderful Tia, allowing us to continue giving each dog the calm, gentle, one-to-one care that means so much to us.

Millie brings with her over two years of grooming experience and shares the same values we do when it comes to patient, compassionate and trustworthy quality grooming. She will be fully qualified in July, and we’re looking forward to have her join us.

So many of you have reached out about second doggies, and it’s been hard not being able to say yes while still protecting the standard of care we believe in. With Millie joining our little family, we can now gently open our doors to a few more furry friends.

I’m currently working my way through the waiting list, and from the beginning of March we’ll be so pleased to start welcoming some new doggies into the salon 🤍
