The Hoof Whisperer

The Hoof Whisperer My name is Zoe Berry and I am a fully qualified Equine Podiatrist based in Farnborough Hampshire.

Notice: From 1st February 2025 my fee for new clients will increase to £50.

20/04/2022

I am afraid that the inevitable has come and that I need to increase my fee to £45 per consultation per horse from 1st June 2022 for my existing clients.

This increase reflects that I am now fully qualified and a full member of the EPA (www.epauk.org), but also to offset some of the significant increases in cost in providing my service to my clients (tools and fuel being the two most significant).

If you have any concerns/questions about this please do let me know.

The Association’s aim is to regulate and support Equine Podiatrists working in the UK, promoting responsible shoeless hoofcare and providing infor...

As part of our training we are required to complete eight mentored case studies. We work with a qualified EP for six months to make recommendations to diet, environment, body work and exercise, to help improve the overall health of the horse.

This is Oliver, a 10 year old Welsh B pony who is used in a local riding school. When I first visited Ollie he had some deviation occurring in his feet due to issues in his pelvis. With a regular balanced trim and some body work we managed to make some significant improvements to his feet and way of going. It really isn’t just about the trim, it is about the whole horse health!

I was honoured to help this 4 year old New Forrest pony to have their first trim! The owners had done a fantastic job of preparing them for the experience, with lots of desensitisation around foot handling. We managed to trim all four feet from the solar side before they became too tired, giving the pony a very positive first experience! They are now on their way to becoming lovely little feet 😊

I look forward to their progress at future trims.

As EPs we will continue to visit clients where needed, the EPA have released this useful info-graphic to assess the risk. Two way communication is the key to ensure welfare needs can be met, whilst keeping everyone safe.

The EPA recognises the importance of reducing disease transmission, and suggests clients take the following precautions to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 passing between themselves and our members.

Spent the day at the wonderful Healthy Horse Conference organised by NKC Equestrian Training with talks by some truly inspiring speakers. Qualified EPs are required to do 40 hours of CPD every year, on all areas of horse health, enabling us to take a holistic view of your horses health and wellbeing.

On Sunday I met Charlie, a 14 year old Irish Sports Horse, and his lovely owner Martha. Charlie has been barefoot for 18 months and his owner has worked very hard to get his diet right. Martha hopes to do some dressage with Charlie in the future. Charlie has medial flare on both fore feet and lateral flare on both hinds which we will work towards reducing over the next few trims. Photos before and after trimming :-)
