I was so excited to see that one of my customers Chantal has passed her puppy behaviour certificate with her puppy Nova. Nova is allways such a good girl for her puppy grooms and is now old enough to have her big girl grooms. I am still offering puppy grooms for £25. It is never too early to get them used to being in a grooming enviroment. Well done to Nova and family!

I hope you're all enjoying the warm English summer so far.

As we all know, prices are rising everywhere and, unfortunately, I need to increase my prices to help cover rising costs. Therefore, from 1st August, my grooming prices will be increasing. I have held off for as long as possible, but it has now become essential if I am to continue operating my business.

I have attached the new price list below.

I would like to thank all of you wonderful people for your continued support, especially during what has been a difficult time for many. I truly hope you will continue to support me in the future, and I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Such a relief that the weather is cooler and Max is certainly happier. In good news my bespoke client booking system is now working.

This is going to reduce my paperwork massively and every time you lovely people book a groom, you will get a confirmation email and an appointment reminder three days before. This does mean a few extra questions when you arrive for your appointments so I can check that I have the correct information, but you do get the thrill of signing your contracts on a screen now and saving the lives of numerous trees.

Thank you all for your patience, I hope to keep improving your and your dogs grooming experience over time and suggestions for improvements are always welcome 💜 🐶

Here at Catz Bark & Brush I pride myself on the comfort and welfare of every dog in my care. 🐶

My salon offers one to one dog grooming in a fully air-conditioned space, ensuring your pup stays calm, cool and happy throughout!

I am fully trained in dog behaviour and first aid so I am able to care for all temperments and sizes of dogs.

I hope that you are all coping well with the heat. Double-coated dogs such as huskies, Newfoundlands, German Shepherds and Bernese are all designed for cold climates but they can cope better with excessive heat if their coat is well maintained with regular de-shed treatments. There are airspaces between their outer long coat and the dense undercoat that traps cool air against the skin, keeping them warm in winter and stopping them from overheating in summer when at rest. Dead undercoat stops their skin from 'breathing' and reduces the insulating ability of the coat.

For just £10 on top of your groom price, you can book a de-shed treatment which restores the normal function of the coat, by removing the majority of the dead undercoat. This involves bathing your dog using specialist de-shed shampoo and conditioner to loosen the dead hair. I then use a high-powered drier and a range of de-shedding tools to remove the dead undercoat. Afterwards, I do a final brush-out to make sure I've removed as much loose coat as possible.

In the spirit of full disclosure this may temporarily increase shedding for a day or two before a reduction of shedding is noticed, as the treatment continues to loosen the dead undercoat until it's all gone and proper coat function is restored. Please consult me to see if your dog will benefit from this treatment combined with their normal groom.

Today I want to talk about the importance of puppy grooms. As soon as your pup is vaccinated I suggest you consider booking some puppy grooming sessions. These
introduce your puppy to the benefits of grooming and encourages them to relax in the grooming environment, ready for future treatments.

Many breeds need lifelong grooming and a good introduction teaches them to enjoy the grooming process rather than fearing it. They will enjoy a bath, brush, gentle blow-dry, ears cleaned, eyes trimmed and nail-clip all at a pace they can cope with. My puppy grooms cost £25 per session and are a great investment in your pups future happiness.

My Aircon has been a godsend these last few days. It was a significant investment last year but it has meant that with a little tweaking I have been able to keep working through the hottest days without having to inconvenience my clients. All of my dogs have stayed comfortable during their grooms, whatever their breed or coat type.

Here's Max, my biggest Aircon fan literally.

Bernese struggle in the heat but he's the perfect guinea-pig to test out the magic cooling machine.

With the first heatwave of the year expected over the next few days, I am ensuring that my doggy clients are kept as comfortable as possible.

As you all know I have air-conditioning in my cabin and the salon but if I consider your dog to be at high risk of overheating I may give you a call and move your groom to a more suitable time such as earlier in the day or later in the evening to avoid the hottest part of the day (with plenty of notice of course).

Please also be careful walking your dogs on hot surfaces, if you can't hold your hand on the path it is too hot to walk your dog.
