After an incredible week in the Amazon, our nurse and clinical director Kerry is now back at work. Kerry has been to Puerto Maldonado in Peru with her youngest son Olly, to an Amazon rescue and rehabilitation centre. There was a wide range of wildlife that had often been captured and sold and then given to the rescue centre for many different reasons. Many of these animals are then rehabilitated to be able to go back to the jungle where possible. Some are injured in ways that mean they cannot be released, however they live as wild a life as possible, in large cages to help maintain good quality of life. One of the cases Kerry saw whilst out there was a very young squirrel monkey that had a broken leg, likely from capture. Thankfully through funding and support from Mengali, the owner of the rescue, the squirrel monkey had his leg repaired with a vet visiting from Lima specially. It was an incredible experience for her and supported by the World Veterinary Services that enable Veterinary professionals to travel and support organisations around the world with charity work. One of our vet's Caitlin, is off to Thailand later this month so we will share photos of her trip when she is back too.🤩🥳https://amazonshelter.org/
