There was a post yesterday and a big discussion on the BSJA group. Someone had sent her horse away for 2 weeks schooling and by all accounts it seemed like the horse had barely had any work in that time.
It got me thinking a few things:-
1️⃣ Do trainers not use groundwork anymore? One of the responses was that it’s been very hot in that time. Yes … but there’s still plenty of muscle work that can be done from the ground. If the horse had been in for longer, a few days off won’t hurt. But if you’ve only got 2 weeks surely every day kinda counts?
2️⃣ Do people really pay money to trainers and just accept zero communication or videos? What other service would you pay for and not have any evidence at all that there was even an attempt to fulfil the obligations?
3️⃣ I feel like if I sent my horse away I’d want to at the very minimum see it ridden before I took it back. Or ideally I’d like a lesson with said trainer.
All of these things are STANDARD policy with Litl’Bit Equestrian.
✔️ Communicate with owners regularly
✔️ Send videos not just talk - even if they are just on grass livery so you can SEE they are safe and well
✔️ Have set plans to achieve the goals
✔️ Be honest in that approach
✔️ Groundwork is a main component anyway as most of what we do is youngsters but there’s often another way or time of day to make something happen
✔️ Horses are treated like actual horses
✔️ Whether it’s groundwork or ridden, we always will show you and/or give you a lesson before your horse leaves us.
If you want your horse to have a happy experience and for your goals to be approached professionally, please get in touch.
