As a small business owner, the decision to cancel walks hits hard HOWEVER for myself personally, I'd rather take the financial hit 100x over than put a single one of the dogs I love and care for at risk in extreme temperatures.
I made the decision to cancel all walks next week due to the extreme heat. No I didnt do it because I wanted and easy week sunbathing (I'm a northerner I dont enjoy hot weather!) The weather forecast next week isn't a shaded area or splash walk kind of heat. Its a deadly to dogs kind of heat!
So here are a few ideas to keep your pooches cool next week
☀️ water play! A child's paddling pool (hard shells are best!) with there favourite toys or a few treats to encourage dipping in if encouragement is needed.
☀️frozen food! Freeze their favourite snacks, carrots work really well! Slow feeders filled with their favourite wet food, unsweetened Greek yogurt is another great option!
☀️ short walks early morning. Evenings the paths are still holding a lot of heat even if the air temp has cooled down those pavements store a lot of heat, if you cant walk barefoot dont expect your dogs to!
☀️ keep their minds busy with training indoors, puzzle feeders ect nothing strenuous!
☀️ products like cooling mats are great as long as your dogs dont chew things!
‼️‼️I have either already messaged everyone booked in for next week or will be over the weekend to swap to home visits or cancellations. If I dont hear back from you I will presume youre happy to cancel and don't require home visits so please respond to messages if you do require home visits! ‼️‼️
Stay safe everyone! Much love to the pups im missing next week!
