On the hillāand in most situationsāI donāt use treats every time Togo does something right anymore. Heās well past that stage of training now. Instead, I use what Iād call a high-value treat. Not the wee training bites, but something heād happily swap his dinner for.
Togo knows the drill: behave on the hill, work well all day, and you get a big reward back at the car while weāre packing upāor in the tent for the night. I honestly believe this builds better results, and builds them quicker.
It also creates a much stronger recall. If your dog only comes back because youāve got treats in your pocket, thereās a good chance they wonāt when those treats run outāor get forgotten.
