Our thoughts go out to the poor 9 month old baby who was killed in a dog attack.
Looking at Adora and my own pets, I couldn't think of anything worse. As adults, as parents, there are steps that we can put in place for both pet and child so this does not happen.
Obviously, we can not speculate at this moment in time as this is under investigation, and we do not know how this awful incident came about, however.....
Except for training, the ONE main thing we must never do is to never leave them alone in a room unattended.
Not because you doubt them, not because you fear them, but because love isnβt blind, itβs careful.
Note, a wag can knock over a toy, a paw can land in the wrong place, and a second can turn from sweet to startled.
And in those tiny, unpredictable seconds,
we owe both of them our presence.
So we stay close. Always just within reach.
Not as a guard, but as a guide, the bridge between fur and fingers, bark and babble.
I have put safely measures in place for my pets and Adora, she is either up high and I'm able to pop the cat out if I need to concentrate on cooking, because cats have been known to lie on babies faces and sufforcate them.
I can also wheel her away from the sofa so the dogs can't get to her.
I also have a puppy pen up, which the dogs can see us but can not get to us. The cat is only ever allowed in this room if Adora has my full attention.
RIP little one πͺ
