With so many of our school leavers having their first days at school this week I wanted to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you- thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child’s early years- we have loved every moment (well almost every moment!) Being trusted to take care of the most precious things in your lives is an honour and a pleasure… so thank you for choosing Little Ones!

So many of our children come to us as tiny babies barely even able to sit up on their own… and now we are waving them off as funny, happy, clever, knowledgeable, confident little people with amazing personalities, full of life and excitement for what lies ahead. Your place in our hearts has been firmly cemented and we will always remember you!

Thank you to all our amazing parents for their gifts, cards and kind comments- we really do appreciate them all. Please don’t forget us… we love having visits… and love to see pictures of our Little Ones in their school uniforms!!

I found this poem on 'Emma's blog' last week and thought it was very relevant! (Tissues needed!)

Dear Teacher,

“I know you’re rather busy, first day back, there’s just no time, a whole new class of little ones and this one here is mine.

I’m sure you have things covered and have done this lots before, but my boy is very little, he hasn’t long turned four.

In his uniform this morning, he looked so tall and steady, but now beside your great big school I’m not quite sure he’s ready.

Do you help them eat their lunch? Are you quick to soothe their fears? And if he falls and hurts his knee will someone dry his tears?

And what if no-one plays with him? What if someone’s mean? What if two kids have a fight and he’s caught in between?

You’re right, I have to leave now it’s time for him to go I’m sure he’ll learn so much from you, things that I don’t know.

Yes, I’m sure they settle quickly, that he’s fine now without me, I know he has to go to school, it’s just so fast.

You see, it seems like just a blink ago I first held him in my arms, it’s been my job to love, to teach, to keep him safe from harm.

So, when I wave goodbye in a moment and he turns to walk inside, forgive me if I crumple into tears of loss and pride.

I know as I give him one more kiss and watch him walk away, that he’ll never again be wholly mine as he was before today “

From xx’s mummy

Dear Parent,

I understand that you are scared to wave your child goodbye and leave him in a teacher’s hands – don’t worry if you cry!

I’m used to weeping parents, it’s hard to leave I know. But it’s time to share him (just a bit) to help him learn and grow.

Let me reassure you that I’ll give your child my best, I’ll wipe his tears, soothe his fears and change his dirty vest!

If your darling child is full of cold I’ll blow their nose all day, just like you, I’ll care for them in a special way.

I’ll treat him like I would my own I’ll catch him from a fall and if there is ANY problem I’ll be sure to tell you all.

It’s true he’ll grow to love us, they’ll talk of school a lot, it doesn’t mean they hate you and that you should lose the plot! I’ll tell you a secret…That when your child is here, they talk to me as much of you of this please have no fear.

You’ll always be their mother, whilst teachers come and go, to them you are their number one, this I truly know.

Soon you’ll see some changes, in your little girl or boy, they’ll become more independent and to see this, it’s a joy!

I’ll teach them all I have to give, to share, climb and to write, but to you they safely will return to tuck them in at night.

With love from a teacher ""

At Whipton....This week in the Big Room we have loved learning all about space and rockets! Our book of the week was Whatever Next and the children enjoyed using their imaginations, just like Baby Bear, to go on space adventures. We mixed potions in the garden using natural ingredients, created large-scale moon-themed art, and even built our own rockets from recycled materials to see whose would travel the furthest! Inside, the children role-played astronauts and mission control crew, taking turns being Baby Bear, Owl, and the moon picnic guests. During Focus Time, they made moon creatures and aliens from natural treasures, stick astronauts, and even tried their hand at constellation threading with card, hole punches, and yarn. It’s been such a magical week of creativity, imagination, and adventure!
Next week our book of the week will be: All About Me! We’re looking forward to a fun and busy week ahead! Sorry...no photos this week due to technical difficulties.

At Bovey....Over the past couple of weeks in our bany room, the two stories we have had in our story box are ‘Each, Peach, Pear, Plum’ and ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’.

We had lots of fun printing with different fruit. We smelt the fruit before putting it in the paint and then we used it to make prints on our paper. We’ve also explored a sensory tray that had water, flour, real and artificial grass, sticks, wood logs and a cave with a bear inside. We made prints in the flour as if it was footprints in the snow and we used our hands to splash in the water. We’ve have had so much fun!

At Whipton....Next week our book of the week is ‘Going on a Plane’ a Biff, Chip and Kipper story.  Our word of the week will be holiday and our Makaton signs – holiday and aeroplane. Our number is 2.
Please please if you have a spare holiday photo of your children somewhere lovely near or far – could you send it in for us to make our ‘where in the world’ map of the world?
We will be carrying on with our holiday theme that has really captured our interests this week.  There will be a role play aeroplane and airport terminal with baggage reclaim with our grown ups playing alongside and modelling imaginative play. In the mark making area there will be luggage labels to write on and post cards to write to our family and friends to pop into the post box we have made.
In the front garden we will be having camping fun and toasting marshmallows around the firepit (bbq) as well as using clay to make tree faces.  We will be serving and selling playdough ice creams in the ice cream shop and in our beach area we will be using both our imagination and gross motor skills to build sand castles and we will be using paint and glue to create our own sand pictures and melty ice creams.
In focus time we will be developing our fine motor and creative skills to draw, paint, cut and stick to pack a suitcase with the right clothes for the right holidays.  We will be making fruit smoothies and sunshine biscuits – cutting our ingredients, measuring and weighing as well as talking about cause and effect.
This week the children have really surprised us with their levels of engagement and interaction, the holiday theme has been lots of fun BUT the lemonade stand has really captured their imagination and everything has really spun off from this – we have squeezed lemons and made our own lemonade, made lemon drizzle cake and also had pancakes with lemon and sugar.  The lemonade stand has had copious amounts of real lemons, limes and oranges and little plastic ice cubes and each day we have been ‘making drinks’ for each other. We have even used lemons and limes for printing in paint and we made our own fish shaped wrap pizzas served up on lemon paper plates.

We will be using sand water and exploring our sea animals and small world people in our tray to pretend that we are on a beach in Tenerife

During the week we have loved learning about gardening. We have planted our own sunflower seeds as well as learnt how to take care of all our seeds. We need sunlight and water for our plants to grow.
