At Whipton....Next week our book of the week is ‘Construction’ by Sally Sutton, our word of the week is vehicles and our Makaton signs are digger and construction.  Our number is 6.

This week our invitations to play will include building with a variety of construction materials – building towers and houses with blocks and bulldozing them down again, we will be exploring maths in our play by using language around size, shape, number, ordering and design.

In the tuff tray we will have sand, oats, stones and rubble with diggers for scooping, digging and transferring and in the creative area we will be making marks using pens taped to the back of cars and painting with cogs and gears.

Outside on the decking we will be building with bricks and sand and there will be a large scale car wash to drive our cars and trikes through for a spruce up.

In Focus Time our pre-schoolers will be working on maths skills using shape and number by making shape vehicles, counting tower blocks and colour matching diggers and in Music and Movement we will be singing and moving to some of our favourite vehicle songs.

This week’s photos are a combination of  Baby room and Big Room where we have all been exploring favourite bear books such as ‘I want my Teddy’ and ‘That’s not my teddy’.  We have been making painty teddies and Pudsey bears and cute little teddy bear ears.  We have been on a bear hunt and have been sorting little bears by size and colour.  For Remembrance Day we talked a little about what we are grateful for and what we would like to say thank you for and made poppies from red and black playdough and paint.

At Budlake....Next week our story is going to be The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson, our word of the week is little and sign will be mouse. In the small world area, we will be retelling the story using a Gruffalo tuff tray with all of the characters in a woodland tray with leaves, sticks, caves and other resources to help us retell the story. In the creative area we will be making a Gruffalo crumble with oats, leaves and pinecones. We will be using spoons to fill up bowls with the mixture and using mathematical language in our play for example words like full and empty. Next week in the garden we will be making Gruffalo caves using the large wooden blocks we will be having a go at making enclosed spaces using the blocks and counting how many we use to make our Gruffalo caves.

Next week for letters and sounds we will be taking part in activities such as roly poly. This is where we use our arms in rolling motion whilst sing roly poly ever so slowly roly poly faster. Why not ask your little one to show you over the weekend.

This week our story was the leaf thief we loved making leaf crowns using real and paper leaves that we made ourselves using scissors carefully to cut them all out. We have also really enjoyed exploring our senses in the water tray smelling scents such as apple, ginger and cinnamon and looking at the inside of a tea bag. On Tuesday we took part in a one minutes silence for memorial day and we were all very good at keeping very quiet the grown ups explained to us why we did this and we enjoyed learning about memorial day and on Friday we took part in a pyjama day for children in need.

At Honiton....Next week at Honiton we are learning about science. Our book of the week a non-fiction book about science. Our number of the week is 4 and our word and sign of the week is Science week. During our cube times we will be showing different science experiments including experiments with colour, explosions, and water. This week’s activities are a potion making tray in the garden with different coloured water, pipettes, measuring tools to measure and use key words for example, more, less, big, small, and empty. Inside we are having our own laboratory where we will be wearing our own goggles to protect us, lab suits, and potion bottles. On our small world table, we will also be using magnetic sticks and pipe cleaners to give out magnet’s spikey hair. We will be exploring why the magnets connect to the pipe cleaners with a good opportunity to be inquisitive and ask open ended questions.

This week we have really enjoyed learning about remembrance. We have been talking about how important it is to remember all the soldiers and how brave they were. We did 2 minutes of silence on Tuesday and the children sat so well, even our younger children managed the whole 2 minutes. We are so proud of our little ones for respecting our history and one day will be able to learn more about this moment. We were very lucky that one of our military families were able to bring in some of their clothes. We got to wear helmets, body armour as well as camouflage jackets. In the creative area we really enjoyed using sponges to make our own poppies and decorating our own poppy biscuits

At Bovey....Next week we are going to be reading ‘we’re going on a bear hunt’ and our number of the week is going to be 3.

We are going to be doing lots of roleplay – retelling the story in small groups to practise our turn taking and sharing. We will be exploring our Bear Hunt themed tuff tray as well as making our own thick oozy mud, meaning we are going to have to squelch through it!

Outside we are going to be exploring ways of going under, over and through different items to challenge the children’s problem solving.

This week we have done lots of arts and crafts and have made poppy’s using our different arts and crafts tools which we have displayed on our display boards. The children have come into nursery in their pyjamas for children in need on Friday. We had hot chocolate and watched an educational show to finish the week off. Thank you all for your donations!

At Budlake....Next week our story of the week is called The leaf thief by Alice Hemming, our word of the week is Autumn and our sign is leaf. In the creative area we will be making Autumn nature crowns using leaves, sticks, pinecones and a range of autumnal resources. This week our story was called bonfire night we have loved reading the story and learning all different facts about bonfire night why not try asking your little one some bonfire night facts to see what they can tell you! We using toilet roll tubes in the mark making area to make our own firework pictures using paint and glitter, in the creative area we explored the feel and sound of tinsel which we used to make our own fireworks and on bonfire night we made our own sparklers using tin foil to make the rustley sound. At Whipton.... ( sorry no photos due to a technical issue!) Next week, we’ll be diving into the story “Where’s My Teddy?” as part of our literacy focus. Alongside this, we’ll be learning about Remembrance Day, exploring themes of memory and peace, and participating in activities for Children in Need, thinking about kindness, helping others, and making a difference.  Our number of the week will be 5. Our word of the week will be ‘Bear’ and our Makaton sign will be bear.

This week we have been learning all about Bonfire Night and Fireworks. We’ve explored the theme using a factual book to support our learning.

We’ve developed our Expressive Arts and Design skills in lots of exciting ways.

On the creative table, we’ve used colourful paints and glitter for flicking, blowing, brushing, and shaking to create a whole host of vibrant firework pictures. In dance, we’ve listened to classical firework music and used our bodies to twist, turn, spin, fly, and pop—transforming ourselves into fireworks!

In the sensory tray, we’ve explored night-black rice with glitter and sparkly accessories.

Outside in the garden, we’ve worked on large-scale flick painting using shower curtains and plastic mats to create dazzling displays of colour.

We’ve also been firefighters for the week—dressing up, putting out pretend fires, driving our fire engines, and learning all about how to stay safe around bonfires and fireworks.

At Bovey....Next week we are going to be reading to book ‘Poppy and the Blooms’. Our number of the week is going to be number 2.

We have planned to make some poppies in groups and individually giving the children chance to create their own and to work together to make a big one. We will be using paint, glue and tissue paper to create these onto paper plates and card. We are also going to be having a sensory tuff tray with playdough in to explore through the week!

When we have made our poppies we are going to arrange our poppies into big and small groups and count them.

Outside in the garden, we are going to invite the children to explore the obstacle courses in lot of different ways that they can think of when using their imagination. Outside they will also get the chance to create their own drawings using different tools.

This week the children have been talking to each other about the fireworks that they have seen through the week, comparing the sizes and colours. At nursery, they have been creating their own firework pictures. We have also made our own pizzas!

During our cube times we will be talking about Remembrance Day any why people wear poppies, as well as why it is important. On the 11th of November we will try to do a 1-minute silence to remember all the fallen soldiers. This week’s activities are a bark and soil tray in the garden with army people, tanks, and poppies in the soil to represent where the poppies grow. Inside we will be making our own poppies with sponges with red paint and black paint for the middle of it. We will also be making our own medals to remember the soldiers that were very brave. During our letters and sounds we will be recognising and making the sounds of different animals, we will also be doing a musical show and tell to show all our friends our musical talents.
