Did you know that hyperthyroidism (excessive thyroid hormone production) is one of the most common conditions affecting older cats? 🐱
Signs to look out for are:
-weight loss despite a good appetite
-restlessness or hyperactivity
-poor coat condition
-vomiting or diarrhoea

The lovely Maisie visited us last month after her attentive owners had noticed she hadn't been herself that morning; she didn't want breakfast and was sick.

Initial tests failed to reveal an underlying cause for her symptoms, and she wasn't responding to medical management as we would of hoped. So we enlisted the help of diagnostic imager James of SoundWave Imaging, who performed an ultrasound scan and identified a partial obstruction just beyond her stomach. Utilizing the endoscope, James was able to successfully retrieve the foreign object - which turned out to be part of a chewed up mystery item! (see picture👀).

Thankfully, Maisie has made a full recovery and is now back to normal self 😻

With the weather improving (well...some days! ⛅), our cats often spend more time outdoors and become more active, but unfortunately parasites do too!

Fleas tend to thrive in warmer weather and can cause irritation, itching and sore skin.
Cats may also hunt more during spring and summer, increasing their risk of picking up worms.
