Tina McQuade - Client Services Manager

Tina began her veterinary career at the age of 17 as a trainee nurse, later moving into management. She is now the Client Services Manager for both Pet Care Vets and Penrose Vets. Tina has always loved working in practice, where no two days are ever the same, and feels incredibly lucky to work with two fantastic teams. Although currently without a pet, she’s certain that will change before long!

🌾⚠️ Grass Seeds – A Hidden Danger for Dogs! ⚠️🌾

Summer is here, and so is grass seed season – one of the most common (and sneaky!) hazards for dogs during walks or playtime in grassy areas. These tiny seeds can easily become lodged in your dog’s paws, ears, eyes, armpits, or even up their nose – and once embedded, they can cause serious infections or abscesses.

What to look out for:
🐾 Excessive licking or limping
👂 Head shaking or ear scratching
👃 Sneezing or nasal discharge
👁️ Red, irritated eyes
🩺 Swelling or sudden lumps under the skin

How to help protect your dog:
✅ Check your dog thoroughly after walks – especially between toes, under legs, and around ears
✅ Keep long-haired dogs well-groomed, particularly around feet and ears
✅ Avoid long grassy areas during peak seed season (late spring to early autumn)
✅ Contact us immediately if you notice any signs of discomfort or unusual behavior

Grass seeds might be small, but they can lead to BIG problems if left untreated. Don’t wait – early intervention can save your dog pain and prevent more serious issues!

📞 If you have any concerns or need advice, call us on 01322 346173.

🐶❤️ Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine!

Urgent Warning for Pet Owners ❗️

The UK Government has issued an alert about counterfeit Frontline Plus flea treatments being sold by online retailers. These fake products have been found to contain chemicals toxic to cats, potentially causing vomiting, seizures, and other serious neurological signs.

If you’ve purchased flea treatments online recently, check the source and packaging carefully. We strongly recommend you only buy your pet’s treatments directly through your vet or a licensed pharmacy.

For more details, please see the official warning from the UK Government:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/urgent-warning-to-pet-owners-as-toxic-chemicals-found-in-fake-flea-treatments

If you're concerned your pet may have been affected, contact us immediately on 01322 346173.

Pet owners urged to be wary of dangerous fake treatments discovered on e-commerce sites.
