Some useful information ℹ️

We often get asked about perches and what are best to use.
We always recommend natural branches/perches, this helps mimic a natural environment & wild behaviours they are safe for the parrot to chew & as they come in different textures & sizes this can keep there feet healthy, also encourages exercise and gripping & helps parrot’s adjust to different surfaces.
They are completely non toxic & overall great stimulation for a parrot.

You can buy natural wood perches from many parrot online shops or even cut some down remember always clean them &. Check if getting them from outside trees that they are safe and not toxic for your parrot.

We advise parrot owners to avoid sand perches although it’s said to help maintain nails etc our view is they do more harm then good, pressure sores, and bumble foot.

Over the Christmas period we pause any adoptions until the new year.
We will still respond to any emergency surrender. All non emergency’s will be in January onwards.

We feel as a rescue it’s important to remind everyone that is not responsible to adopt a parrot as a Christmas present which is why we do not adopt over this period.

Wishing all rescues who work very hard & everyone who finds it within their hearts to give a rescue parrot a loving home a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Something to think about... I saw this comment posted today. If you need to read this more than once to understand, please do, then do better .
'If someone caged any other animal than a bird and never let them out, everyone would go off their heads, but if it's a bird it seems it's acceptable. The one animal that freedom means the most to seems to mean the least to humans.'

This really resonates with me. I realise that plenty of small animals are kept in cages that are largely unsuitable, but there is something fundamentally different about bids. They are not domesticated. They have the ability for the most movement, and instincts and intelligence to match. To deprive a bird of this and keep it in a cage perhaps a few times the size of its wingspan... That sounds like some kind of torture.

This is NOT saying that people should release pet birds. Pet birds would generally not survive in the wild if released, because they don't understand how to find food and shelter or evade predators. Birds who are released go through extensive rehabilitation for successful transition into the wild.

This is simply saying that birds have specific needs, and in many ways they are the most neglected and abused pets due to this physical, mental and psychological deprivation. It is so important for anyone with birds to research their needs, observe them in more natural habitats and try to replicate this as much as possible.

While this post is about birds, I would like to emphasise that ALL animals kept as pets (and otherwise) should have the freedom to do what is natural and necessary for their wellbeing, including having suitable housing. And sadly, there are so many animals that don't have this.

Today we picked this poor boy up who’s been showing signs of respiratory issues for quite some time clearly, he’s also most likely deficient in other vitamins which has caused his decline in health, the person who surrendered him said he had a cold..Now if this was a cat or dog would this outcome have been the same?He couldn’t even drink fluids so he was clearly not able to eat or drink for how long given his body weight aswell.Who knows, but too much time passed for him and he passed away with is in the car in the way back, the stress of the travel and being so poorly his odds were low but we were there with him and he went peacefully with people who cared, we seen you and we will continue to see all the others. We spent 6hours driving to collect him and all of our time today to drive home heartbroken. When will these people be held accountable for animals left to suffer like this Please go to my link and donate anything you can our rescue reply’s on public donations to keep up with travel costs vet bills and care for these animals.
