PLEASE, PLEASE CHECK WHO IS LOOKING AFTER YOUR DOG WHEN YOU’RE AWAY🐾

This summer — 2026 — we have never seen so many cases of dogs escaping from boarders, sitters and other dog professionals. 🫤

It feels like every other case is the same story… and it’s relentless. 😭

Please, PLEASE do your checks before trusting someone with your beloved dog.

Because imagine this…

You’re away — often abroad — enjoying your holiday, when the phone rings:

“Fido is missing.” 😩💔

Your stomach drops.
You’re hundreds — or thousands — of miles away.
And suddenly you’re desperately trying to find a way home.

Accidents can happen. We know that.

But there are checks you can make that may reduce the risk of your dog ever becoming one of these cases.

Ask questions.
Check qualifications, insurance and licensing where applicable.
Read reviews and recommendations.
Check their procedures, premises and security.
Meet them — and make sure your dog meets them too.

Don’t just take someone’s word for it. Do your research FIRST.

Please don’t become “the next” distraught owner trying to get a flight home because their dog has escaped. 😞

Your dog is relying on you to choose wisely. 🐾

Ticks rank second only to mosquitoes in infectious disease spread to both pets and people. Ticks are small creatures that are closely related to spiders and can be predominantly found lurking in grassy areas, such as fields and meadows.

Varying in shape, colour and size, ticks are generally oval, flat and small: the size of a sesame seed when unfed, but once completely engorged with blood, they grow to the size and shape of a coffee bean. They look for hosts to latch onto, often by climbing to the top of a long blade of grass waiting for passing mammalian traffic, i.e. a sheep, cat, hedgehog, dog, or even you!

After taking your dog for a walk, it’s a good idea to check them for ticks. You can do this by moving your hands over their body to check for any unusual small bumps, if you find one, use a tick removal tool followed by antiseptic wipes or spray.

Just like us, our pets can get sunburn too!
Always use a pet-safe sunscreen and try to avoid peak heat hours where possible.

This applies to cats as well as dogs - especially white or light coloured cats who love sunbathing in windows or outdoors.

Stay safe and keep those floofs cool!
