PS about my Memorial Day post: Thanks to everyone for your kind words and shares of the list of US farriers who were killed while serving. Of course I found some who should have been listed, so wanted to add a few interesting names from the Civil War:

1. Albert Cook, farrier for the Second Kansas Cavalry, Company K, very sadly died from his wounds, while he was a prisoner of war. He was captured at Poison Springs, Arkansas.

2. John S. Bridges was a farrier for the Arkansas First Cavalry, of the Confederate States of America. He was killed at Elm Springs, Arkansas on April 26, 1863.

3. Herman Beck, farrier for Company L of the First New York Cavalry, was captured at New Market, Virginia on May 13, 1864. He was sent to the infamous Andersonville Prison in Georgia, where he died on September 26, 1864.

4. Hunn B. Foote enlisted as a farrier for the First New York Cavalry, Company A, even though he was quite old for service at 45 years old, in July 1861. By October of that year, he was dead, although whether he was under fire or taken ill is not clear.
